Well its only 10:45, but I've seen enough...

Well, I've seen enough of this year's Oscars, which I finally turned-off. I've never done that before, but seriously, this is the WORST Oscars show ever. This year's theme is obviously "aren't we wonderful for the way we constantly change the world for the better?" I mean George Clooney's ...

Re: POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL Announces Director...

As for Trevor Jones, there are two scores that haven't been mentioned. One is Merlin, my favourite all time Jones score. And the other is Savage Islands. Wish that would be released on CD. Yeah, me too! Tell me, since you've worked in the soundtrack biz, do you have any idea why so few of Trevor Jo...

New Image from Power of The Dark Crystal...

The "Book of Habidad" (a fan site devoted to The Dark Crystal) has a still image of Kira, as she appears in the new film... http://habidabad.com/news.htm As a fan of the film, I'm encouraged -- at least it looks like the visual style from the original film is being retained. And IMDB lists...

Re: POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL Announces Director...

Actually, the Dark Crystal LP credited "Orchestration by Trevor Jones, Peter Knight and John Coleman". Unlike *too many* composers these days, Jones is fully capable of orchestrating himself. He studied composition and orchetration at the Royal Academy of Music. Even when working with comp...

Re: POWER OF THE DARK CRYSTAL Announces Director...

Any word on whether Trevor Jones is coming back? His score was one of the most important elements of the original Drak Crystal (and still arguably his best score).

Ken Russell is still at it (sort of)...

Ken Russell, the sometimes-compelling (but often kooky) British director is, at the age of 78, still busily making films. However, the director of Mahler and Altered States is now self-financing them (one cost £100) and distributing them online. Acording to The Guardian: Future of film is on the net...

Those pipes are utilized but I didn't think this score sounded much like BRAVEHEART otherwise Well in the film itself, there were no pipes. Horner did use a "kena", which is the primitive flute heard in Braveheart's love theme. Actually the kena is a Native American flute (from South Amer...

Adrian Biddle, BSC, dead at 53

I just found-out that ALIENS lighting cameraman Adrian Biddle died -- last week.

Did anyone else hear about this? I'm surprised this story has not been more widely circulated.

The New World was great!

I saw this film last night. I have not seen any of Terrence Malick's other films, but I mostly wanted to see it because I am intrested in the time period, as well as Native American cultures. I thought it was great. Leisurely-paced to be sure, and not made in a typical "Hollywood" fashion....

Re: INDY 4: Ford Gives a Deadline?

I agree with Harrison -- it's time to make it or forget it, before everyone is getting social security. The other thing is...when will this next Indy adventure take place? Both Connery and Ford (depite the hair color) are looking a little long in the tooth. It would have to be quite some time after...

Well I was planning to see this movie tonight since I have to review it (for Renaissance Magazine)...but its not even opening in my town! And we have an eight-screen multiplex, as well as two "art house" cinemas (with five screens between them).

Re: TRISTAN & ISOLDE

Very few reviews available for this Ridley Scott-produced pet project, which opens wide from Fox on Friday. I can't assume that's a good sign (or the mere fact that it's being released on January 13th), though the story line is intriguing and Kevin Reynolds -- for all his faults -- usually makes an...

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha reactions

I don't know many people who even know who Toru Takemitsu is! I have a soundtrack collector friend who once referred to Takemitsu as "that Chinese guy"! Takemitsu was an extraordinary composer, with an amazingly versatile range. Ran, Woman in the Dunes, Rikiyu, Rising Sun, Glowing...
