Re: Westworld
I enjoyed the first season of Westworld, particularly when it had the occasional nod toward the original Crichton film. (Not going anywhere with Futureworld, even though my dad worked on it - that movie is an epitome of 70s schlock) JJ Abrams isn't really involved in the series as far as I know - at...

This is also why Fotonovels were a lot of fun back in the day - I still have a couple of Star Trek episodes in that format, as well as the larger, more interesting Alien Fotonovel and even the Outland Fotonovel. But you guys are right - these options, including novelizations and comic adaptations, w...

Re: A QUIET PLACE - April
On a more serious note, I am seeing very good feedback for this. In a different way from Get Out. People have simply said “See it” without spoiling anything, and that’s always a good sign.

Re: CHAPPAQUIDDICK netting excellent reviews
Eric, you turned the discussion of this film into a political diatribe. I simply responded. You need to understand that you can’t just make blanket statements as you did and not ever hear an answer. Throwing a tantrum and trying to bully other posters will not change that fact. If you don’t like hea...

No, Eric. You don't get to throw political nastiness around and then hide when someone calls you on it.
If you don't want to discuss this, then don't bring it up.
And don't use that woman's death as a cover. Be honest about your intentions on this.

Re: A QUIET PLACE - April
A. Regarding A Quiet Place, I've read some good things about it from friends who have seen it, but curiously have not actually HEARD anything. For some reason, people are being a bit hush-hush on this one... B. Regarding loud and boisterous audiences, I still remember friends of mine in high school ...

Re: CHAPPAQUIDDICK netting excellent reviews
Interesting to see the attention this film is getting. We'll see how it does over time. I'd agree that the incident should have ended Teddy Kennedy's political career, and that it was a major frustration for the Right Wing when it didn't. We continue to see this happen with political figures, who re...

Re: Rumor: Meryl Streep Replacing Carrie Fisher in STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Paul, I think he may well score the occasional movie, depending on how he feels about it. (More likely a Spielberg film than not, of course)
And I do think he'll continue to conduct in concert when he can, on a reduced schedule. I don't think he could ever stop doing that - it's part of who he is.

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"
Nothing in this really looks all that interesting. It appears Ron Howard at least gave them a coherent movie, but not one I'll be taking any time to see. I agree with Paul - this is an origin story we don't need to hear. The sad part for me is that I honestly don't see a reason to see the 9th movie ...

Re: Rumor: Meryl Streep Replacing Carrie Fisher in STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Paul, I think it's a mixture of both. And there's a factor that at this point, he's written the music for 9 of these movies. At a certain point, the well runs dry, particularly when the stories you're putting to music aren't particularly imaginative or interesting anymore. The man is 86 years old, a...

Re: Rumor: Meryl Streep Replacing Carrie Fisher in STAR WARS EPISODE IX
I seriously doubt this rumor - just as I doubted the rumors we've heard every six months or so that Disney was about to release the original theatrical cuts of the original trilogy on Blu-ray. Sounds to me like some fans with way too much time on their hands. My understanding of Episode IX is that t...

Re: This Week's Column: DARK CRYSTAL in 4K
I've just posted my review of the Blu-ray downrez of the 4K Dark Crystal at HTF. I can say, in looking at both transfers, that the new Blu is a better transfer - it's a bit darker but it feels more natural. There's a bit more grain to it, but that helps in the area where you don't want the puppets o...

Re: This Week's Column: DARK CRYSTAL in 4K
I remember the footage of the full Skesis version of the movie. I'm tending to doubt that Sony will put that out, even as a bonus feature, simply because they believe that just staying with the excerpt on the existing disc is enough Skeksis language for everyone... I have both Blus at home to compar...

Re: John Williams to Retire from STAR WARS
I don't think Williams will end his career with the Abrams Star Wars movie. (And I'm not completely sure he'll actually do it - it's still possible that "a conflict with another movie" will prevent it...) I think Williams will end his career with a score for his friend Steven Spielberg. Pr...
