Re: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Memorial Day

It's cut-and-paste, comic book like action, solemnly and competently delivered, but little more. Finally took this one in. I had pretty-much had the same reaction as you. I was also disappointed that the film's most interesting character -- the Orangutan Raka -- only has about 20 minutes of screen ...

So weird that Ridley will work with anyone in the Zimmer company except Hans himself for the last couple of decades.
Well, they probably wrote a lot of those “Zimmer” scores themselves anyway!

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Экипаж (Air Crew) 8.5/10 1979 Russian film, which is sort of half European "intimate drama" and half Irwin Allen disaster film -- which may sound contrived, but the film is actually excellent. Air Crew follows three pilots -- a former airline employee who has taken lesser work to appease ...

The Horror Show: 1979 TV restrospective on horror movies (hosted by Anthony Perkins)

This was a really good retrospective on horror movies, written and directed by Richard Schickel, which aired in 1979. What makes it especially interesting is that it appeared before the "horror renaissance" that ushered-in John Carpenter and his imitators, so it concentrates on "the c...

Re: RIP Martin Mull

Sad news. He was seemingly everywhere in the 1970s, but seemed to drop off the map in the 80s.

Agreed on Serial, one of the greatest comedy films of that era (and thanks again for introducing me to that one!).

Thanks! And thanks also for your observations. I'd agree Chani is more combative, I just felt her character had more dimension than she did in Lynch's film.
