I'm curious, do you know if they master these right off the original negative?

I was wondering because when I saw The Patriot in HD, I was blown-away with the clarity and sharpness of the image. I think it looked BETTER than it did in the theatre (albeit cropped to 16:9).

Well lets face it, what need is there for composers like Craid Safan and Basil Poledouris when we have GREAT scores by people like John Ottman, Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams? When I was a kid, people would look at me weird and say "Why do you want to listen to 'movie' music? Its...

I honestly thought the original Dark Crystal was a better adaptation of the Lord of the Rings than any of Peter Jackson's films! :P Its indeed a thrill to know that Brian Froud is designing the new film, as it was largely his designs that made the first film so impressive. Here's hoping Trevor Jones...

Subsequently, I opted to purchase the Region 3 2-disc Special Edition from CD Wow ($15 shipped) Andy, On your advice I checked CD Wow, but I could only find the Region 2, for £12.99 (that's about $25 in US funds). This is the web address I was taken to when I typed in cdwow.com... http://www5.cd-wo...

The other problem is the growth in directing as a lifestyle choice and the slew of no-budget weekend courses encouraging them. What always shocks me is how many people on these have no stories they have to tell, no individual voice - they just want to be a director. Augh...deliver me from those peo...

I've always considered him an overrated director. He's made one excellent film -- Goodfellas, and has a few good efforts under his belt. I always liked his Italian American documentary, and consider The King of Comedy an underrated gem. But look how many truly marginal (or outright bad) films he's m...

Remember when epic films were actually shot outdoors? One of the reasons Lawrence of Arabia is a greatest of all the epics is that David Lean actually shot it on location, in places generally regarded as "inaccessable". It actually looked real...because it was! And remember when epic films...

Its not uncommong for directors to sink into a depression during post-production. Hitchcock thought Psycho was a failure and even considered cutting it down into an Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode. That said, I do think Eyes Wide Shut is one of Kubrick's weakest films. I love Stanley Kubrick, and ...

Thanks for the links Andy! Its interesting how many "promising" young actresses there were in the 80s... Not only Meredith, but also Iona Skye, Jami Gertz, Jennifer Connelly, Martha Plimpton, Kerri Green, Molly Ringwald, Justine Bateman, Mia Sara, Ally Sheedy, Phoebe Cates. And in England ...

Jimmy Reardon -- is Elmer's score on the Region 2 DVD?

I caught part of this movie on TV a while back. Not a masterpiece (the little I saw) but it does have Meredith Sallanger at her most fetching (as well as Iona Skye). Anyway, I was curious to see more of this film (and its female cast), and more especially hear Elmer Bernstein's score -- which I've h...

Of course the government is essentially forcing it down the throats of consumers by "shutting off" analog down the pike, which makes you wonder if some legislator (or two) weren't in bed with the electronics industry, making this all happen in the first place. Whether born of corruption o...

Another difference is that when Rachel plays the piano, it's in a different, sharper key that would not have melded with the love theme. Its in minor, which I think adds to the edginess. It was changed to major in the final version. I don't know whether Vangelis considered his initial cue for this ...
