Re: rate the last movie you saw
I am going to make a fresh transfer of my 1776 LD with my AVCHD high-def PC recorder this summer. Just need to figure out the proper bit rate for a dual-layer disc. You know I agree with you Eric, the laserdisc cut is better than the DVD, and JoeCaps got it right with that release. What Hunt did to ...

Re: 4th of July Box-Office
Just an FYI...this movie's domestic grosses were much lower, but it doesn't matter...in terms of overall sales it's already passed AT WORLD'S END. $1 bil is a hell of a lot of money. Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides just crossed $1 billion in global box office today. The pic had grossed $...

Re: 4th of July Box-Office
Putting it into perspective... Transformers: Dark of the Moon amassed $156.6 million for its five-day opening ($162.1 million total including Tuesday night previews), edging out Spider-Man 2's $152.4 million as the ninth highest-grossing five-day start ever. ...While the first Transformers made $133...

Re: 4th of July Box-Office
It is, but they'll spin it and tell you it'll hold up over the next few weeks because the movie is "better." Of course I'm not taking their word for it

Re: Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts Movie, LARRY CROWNE, Bombs
Truth be told Hanks is kind of like Spielberg politically to me: I don't always agree with where they're coming from, but unlike some other pundits on the other side of the aisle, I respect them because I think they mean well (if you know what I mean). We'll just agree to disagree. The bigger proble...

Re: 4th of July Box-Office
It's running, I think they said, 28% under TF2 for the first few days -- and that's WITH 3-D, which it didn't have before.
So it's big, but it's not massive.
Obviously we'll have to see how it holds up for the next few weekends.

Yeah totally agree.Eric W. wrote:GI Joe was "ok."
Not great...decent romp, that's about it.
The Rock is in this one too, which will help boost grosses. Bruce Willis would be another nice addition.

Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts Movie, LARRY CROWNE, Bombs
I love the comment "who the ---- wants to see Tom Hanks, who just bought a $26 million house, play one of the “regular” folks getting laid off from a big box store? I wonder how he got into character…did he go around the Valley, asking people “what it’s like living with no dreams in an economic...

Re: New Making of JAWS Book -- WOW
And I have to admit given the presentation of material, I'm more relieved having a hardcover version because a softcover one would get a broken spine very quickly from me! The hardcover was the whole reason I wanted the LE myself. The DVD and the hull fragment -- nice to have, but not worth the ext...

Re: New Making of JAWS Book -- WOW
I'll post some more when I get a chance to look through it this weekend. My initial impression is just what you said Eric -- it's even more impressive, comprehensive and beautifully designed than I ever expected. The information covered, the pictures they included, the mix of old articles with new i...

Re: New Making of JAWS Book -- WOW
Got here! #980! I'm surprised they haven't made mention that they're close to moving the 1000 copy allotment...unless they're just going to do another run perhaps? Fantastic package. Can't wait to sit down this weekend (how appropriate on the 4th of July!) and enjoy it, along with watching m...
