Re: New Making of JAWS Book -- WOW

I will Eric! Joanne only placed the order a couple of weeks ago though, so it'll be interesting to see how many they've moved in the interim. I really can't wait. This is, singularly, my all time favorite movie. It does not surprise me that certain elements in the film came about not because they we...

Re: New Making of JAWS Book -- WOW

Joanne ordered me a copy for our anniversary :) but it hasn't shown up yet...something tells me they're shipping these out slowly in the order they received them so I'm not worried...yet anyway. Looking forward to reading it.

Re: Michael Bay Pleads for Brightness in 3-D TF3 Exhibitions

The two reasons Bay is concerned btw: 1. Paramount is strong-arming theater chains into showing the movie in 3-D. Like THOR, if you want to see it in 2-D, you're going to have a hard time. (There's a good article on this at Deadline, noting CAPTAIN AMERICA will be the same): http://www.deadline.com/...

Michael Bay Pleads for Brightness in 3-D TF3 Exhibitions

Have to say I think the cat is out of the bag on this one. This note from Michael Bay seems to indicate it as well. 3-D has killed Hollywood this summer to a degree and Bay can thank his studio brethren for over-exposing, over-indulging, over-inflating ticket prices. Bay has a point about brightness...

Re: Weekend Box Office - CARS, BAD TEACHER Open

More accurate numbers are in. That GREEN LANTERN 66% drop is as bad as it gets. DOA. 1. Cars 2 3D (Pixar/Disney) NEW [4,115 Theaters] Friday $25.7M, Saturday $23.5M, Weekend $67M 2. Bad Teacher (Sony) NEW [3,049 Theaters] Friday $12.1M, Saturday $10.8M, Weekend $31M 3. Green Lantern 3D (Warner Bros)...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

http://www.impawards.com/1979/posters/meatballs.jpg 8/10 It's been a long, long time since I've seen MEATBALLS, and since Joanne had never seen it, she chose it as our "flashback movie of the week" of sorts. I was actually delighted because I didn't just find the movie to be as good as my...

That has potential if done right but is definitely a reach.
I believe I read it was a prequel also (about how the two main characters met).

Re: Weekend Box Office - CARS, BAD TEACHER Open

CARS still might hit $200 million but it might cap there...because the kids go during the week to these type of movies. The Jim Carrey penguin film actually held up well this weekend so Cars will likely play for a while. PIRATES has done about $225 mil domestic but it's down markedly from the third ...

Re: Weekend Box Office - CARS, BAD TEACHER Open

Looks like THOR is going to end up being the highest grossing super-hero movie of the year ($176 mil domestic). X-MEN has done just OK but I'm not sure it's going to be a franchise starter in terms of the money its pulled in; maybe they try a sequel but it'll probably cap at $150 million (barely). E...

Weekend Box Office - CARS, BAD TEACHER Open

GREEN LANTERN is dead, get ready for more raunchy female comedies now that BAD TEACHER made money, and CARS did OK but with 3-D grosses isn't any kind of spectacular opening. 1. Cars 2 3D (Pixar/Disney) NEW [4,115 Theaters] Friday $25.7M, Estimated Weekend $70M 2. Bad Teacher (Sony) NEW [3,049 Theat...

Re: CARS 2 - Pixar Hits the Bottom of the Barrel

Wall-E was excellent. I loved the character, but I hated the preachy messages and heavy-handedness of the plot. It's one thing to attack consumerism but biting the hand that pipes in billions of dollars into your merchandizing and movie making business was hypocritical and rubbed me the wrong way. ...

Re: CARS 2 - Pixar Hits the Bottom of the Barrel

Yep. 36% on the Tomato Meter -- little more than Saturday morning TV dialogue and plot according to most reviews. Even BAD TEACHER with Cameron Diaz is rating higher -- substantially so. I should say -- I wasn't crazy about CARS but it wasn't awful. I thought it was OK and was mainly for kids. This ...

CARS 2 - Pixar Hits the Bottom of the Barrel

Truth be told I've found several Pixar movies to be overpraised (WALL-E in particular), but it looks like they've finally reached a negative critical consensus with CARS 2 which is getting slammed all over the place today. Can't say I really liked the first CARS, and since I don't have kids, seems l...
