Re: Maestro -- Leonard Bernstein biopic

You are so right about Cooper capturing Bernstein's mannerisms, Paul. I certainly hope it will be a good film. The trailer brings to mind a Cole Porter biopic I saw years ago called "De-Lovely."

Re: THE ROCKETEER Disney Channel Special (1991)

Dusted this off from my vault -- fun to see especially given there's never been any extras produced for a home video release of this one! This is great, Andy - thank you so much for posting it! I remember watching The Rocketeer in the theater and falling in love with the film, the score, and Jennif...

Re: LAST OF THE DOGMEN (1995) - Andy's Blu-Ray Review

I watched Last of the Dogmen based on your excellent review, Andy, and really enjoyed it. Thank you!

I don't own the David Arnold album from way back, but would definitely purchase it if one of the specialty labels could re-release it (good point about LLL, John) - very good music!

Re: Star Trek - The Motion Picture DIRECTOR'S EDITION UHD/BD Release; Limited Set Includes 1983 TV Version!

And went back and checked -- and your right! I wonder if my iPod somehow skipped over that section (it was behaving oddly the day I was listening to the podcast). I'm glad that turns out to be the cue you were referencing, Paul. As you pointed out, the podcast is incredibly long - even as en...

Re: Star Trek - The Motion Picture DIRECTOR'S EDITION UHD/BD Release; Limited Set Includes 1983 TV Version!

It's over four hours long (!) but it is very interesting (I took it in over two days, during two long drives on the highway). I have to admit it did force me to re-evaluate the Director's Edition -- though I still object to the replaced music cue near the end of the film (which I was disappointed t...

Re: DRAGONSLAYER Coming to 4K UHD

I really enjoyed reading your review and analysis of the new Dragonslayer disc, Andy! My copy arrived this weekend. I hope to watch it and begin diving into the extras soon. Interesting discussion of North's score here. I bought the Southern Cross/SCSE CD long before I saw the film, and I'm actually...

You are so right, Paul - that three-note motif is laughable.

Re: I guess none of us bothered with the Oscars this year?

I completely forgot about the Oscars! I haven't watched that ceremony for years now. Thank you for posting the video, Andy - Ke Huy Quan's acceptance speech is sweet and moving. I haven't seen "Everything Everywhere All At Once," but of course his terrific work in "The Goonies" a...

Re: Soviet Lord of the Rings miniseries

Came across this genuinely bizarre oddity on Youtube -- a 1991 Soviet TV adaptation of Lord of the Rings ! Looks like you'll have to go to Youtube directly to watch it (the link works tho). Shot in glorious SECAM, it looks -- in terms of production quality -- like a cross between a student film and...

Re: WARLOCK Vestron Collector's Edition Blu-Ray - 7/25

Great! You are welcome as always Chris. Can you play out of region discs? I can't recall if they are "B" locked or not. Andy, I just checked the German Warlock disc at Rarewaves and it says Region "B." I don't have a region-free player, though I would like to purchase one in the...

Re: WARLOCK Vestron Collector's Edition Blu-Ray - 7/25

Chris, the German release doesn't have any cut footage but the transfer's encoding is definitely better. It probably depends on how big your screen is. To me I could see a difference and it's worth it but then again I've got a critical eye and it's my job to notice these things :) It's the same tra...

Re: WARLOCK Vestron Collector's Edition Blu-Ray - 7/25

Jeff Bond commentary on WARLOCK! Alas, no cut footage it seems. Hi Andy, sorry to resurrect a old thread, but I was searching the Aisle Seat for information about "Warlock", a movie I admit to liking in spite of its many flaws. You stated in your excellent review that the Vestron Collecto...

Re: Oscars 2023 List

I suspect the nods to Top Gun and Avatar are a way of saying "thank-you" to Cruise and Cameron for getting people back in theater seats -- but I can't see those movies winning anything other than visual effects. "Top Gun: Maverick" is the only film on this Oscar list I've actual...
