AVENGERS and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Trailers

Watch it before they take it down again. I don't quite get having to "start over" only a decade removed from the first movie but...I guess that's the thing these days! Garfield looks like a solid Peter Parker; Emma Stone doesn't function as well as a blonde for me but she's guaranteed to b...

Re: DARK TOWER Production "On Hiatus"; Sounds DOA

She's dead, Jim... The moment has come for Universal Pictures to fish or cut bait on The Dark Tower, the ultra-ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King 7-novel series that was going to encompass a trilogy of feature films and two limited run TV series. The studio has said, No Thanks. Universal has p...

Re: Weekend Box Office 7/17- POTTER Breaks All-Time Record

I'm happy that Allen scored a hit with MIP...it's hard to believe a film of his made $40+ million! I hope RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES does as well as Harry Potter did this week...just kidding...lol...I'll be there contributing to the Friday box office returns for sure for APES! The "...

Re: Weekend Box Office 7/17- POTTER Breaks All-Time Record

Full numbers. That is the all-time opening weekend record for Potter. Interesting how, in limited release, Malick's TREE OF LIFE has been a virtual flop so far. Barely $10 million with a low per-screen average and it's been out for a couple of months. Contrast that with the Woody Allen film which ha...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

Well, if this installment impressed the difficult-to-please Paul Maclean, then I for sure will check it out soon! I still need to see Part 7.1, though. I saw "1/2-Blood Prince" with my girlfriend at the time who had read all the books. She greatly enjoyed it, but I was a little lost at ti...

Perhaps Disney dropped the OF MARS perhaps to avoid any confusion with MARS NEEDS MOMS
Excellent point TS, that probably was the reason!

Re: 3.5 million 3D BDs 'sold' in first year; half with hardw

I said it from the very beginning -- these studios were dumb, stupid, greedy, all of those things, to ask consumers who just went through a format change (with HDTV plus Blu Ray) to do it again just for a few dozen CGI kids movies (and Avatar) that use the 3-D format. 3-D has never been anything mor...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

t's great to start with a film you know so well because then you can marvel at all the extra detail. That's the great thing about Blu-Ray, and watching movies in HD, Eric. Not that every BD transfer has that level of detail (there are a few clunkers out there), but by and large the majority offer a...

Weekend Box Office 7/17- POTTER Breaks All-Time Record

At least for opening day...massive start, even with 3-D helping out (though I noticed locally, only 2 of 5 screens at the main theater I go to were in 3-D). Preliminary Numbers: 1. Harry Potter/Hallows, Pt 2 - 3D (Warner Bros) NEW [4,375 Theaters] Friday $95m, Estimated Weekend $180M 2. Transformers...

Re: THE THING Trailer - Remake City After All

Ironically, Christine was one of the few late 70's/early 80's Carpenter films not shot by Cundey (Donald M. Morgan was the DP).
I'd forgotten that! That must have been the first one Cundey didn't shoot for him.

Re: rate the last movie you saw

A friend asked me if I wanted to see the Deathly Hallows Part 2 today...I hate to admit it but I'm just not into it.

Hope you Potter fans enjoy it though :) I'll leave it to you guys and check it out on Blu Ray in a couple of months.

Re: THE THING Trailer - Remake City After All

And Carpenter's use of the Panavision frame remains peerless.
I always give Dean Cundey credit as well, he shot most all of Carpenter's early films and they have a beautiful look to them; when combined with Carpenter's eye for widescreen they're as good as it gets. Massively underrated DP.

Re: THE THING Trailer - Remake City After All

but I don't get why they're saying it's a prequel when it looks just like a remake. Probably because the word "prequel" is slightly less despised than "remake" these days. Plus, there hasn't been a particularly good track record for Carpenter remakes ( Halloween ? The Fog ? Assa...
