Re: Weekend Box Office 8/7: APES Rises to $50 Million-plus
APES had no drop off from Fri to Sat -- all due to word of mouth. Projected $55 mil opening now.

Re: rate the last movie you saw
MJ we agree again totally. I think Freida must have hit the cutting room floor -- but probably with good reason (didn't really need her character). I was glad to see Franco's fate ended up differently than what I read in the original screenplay too. Interesting tidbit -- John Lithgow said tonight on...

Re: RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Best Film of the Summer
Wow! I hesitate to get excited sometimes because people ultimately end up being disappointed after reading good things -- but I'll just say that my expectations were high after reading all the reviews, and the movie did not disappoint. It's not flawless, but I did love it. Even today, driving aroun...

Re: RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES - Best Film of the Summer
Doyle's score is mostly just typical action-orchestral stuff, but does have a really nice ending to it. Tonally it has more going on than Elfman's score, that's for sure, but I'm not sure I'd buy the album. My review is up on the front page... http://www.andyfilm.com/8-9-11.html At the very top of t...

Weekend Box Office 8/7: APES Rises to $50 Million-plus
At first a lot of the prediction sites had APES finishing at or above COWBOYS AND ALIENS' $36-$40 million. They had to revise it upwards, big time, late last night to $50 million. What you are seeing is word of mouth kick in in a very big way. Early Estimates -- 1. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (Fo...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
What kind of references, or in this case "in-jokes" (which is more appropriate when the film isn't associated with them) to the earlier films were there? Very low key references Eric -- many character names ("Mr. Jacobs" is the bad guy), a couple of newspaper headlines and on th...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES 9/10 This is hands down the best movie I've seen this year so far -- maybe not "perfect," but I am stumbling to find a better piece of sci-fi on film in recent years...this one is unique, exciting, emotional, well animated, well acted, surprisingly well writt...

The Blu-Ray transfer as Eric mentions IS absolutely spectacular. Truly one of the best catalog discs I've seen in HD.

Re: Conan the Barbarian Blu-rays - US Missing 90 Seconds
OK so I just watched the raid on Conan's camp (this applies to both Blu-Ray versions, the US and the international): I turned on the Portuguese track on the Fox international Blu-Ray, and it's true, the chorus is definitely dialed out and could be entirely missing in a couple of stretches of the mai...

Re: Conan the Barbarian Blu-rays - US Missing 90 Seconds
Hey Andy, there's some grumbing at the FSM boards that the choir is missing in some cues in the new sound mix on the Blu. Is this correct...? :? Whereabouts? I watched the whole movie on the HK int'l Blu-Ray and didn't realize it if it's the case. Hang on...I have the US version from Netflix and wi...
