Re: Olive Films - New Releases.
I remember watching IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES on HBO as a kid. Haven't seen it since then. Is this the one with a character who is a movie director who goes WAY over budget and makes ridculous requests while on set? That's about all I recall.

A.O. Scott's review is up at the New York Times site. He did not like it.

Same here. I might even rank Part 2 as the best but that's only because I saw it first. I only watched Part 3 once in the theater and hardly remember anything about it.AndyDursin wrote:100% agree on that summation MJ!

Re: Twilight Time: Full Schedule Through Mid 2013 Released
What do you guys think about the chances of sell-outs for Christine and The Fury? They go up for pre-order next week. On Facebook, Twilight Time made a comment that suggested they think Christine will sell out quickly.

Re: STAR WARS VII director-J. J. Abrams
I think Abrams is a great choice. I did not know there was such hatred for him on some sites. STAR TREK was fantastic, one of the best SF films in recent memory. As far as his TV work goes, both Lost and Fringe are two of the best SF shows of the last several years as well. I just hope he makes Epis...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched
I watch way too many TV shows to review all of them. My wife and I currently watch Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Homeland, Justified, Downton Abbey, Parks and Recreation and Revolution just to name a few. Most of those are on DVD (or Blu-Ray if Netflix has them). One older show I've started to watch is I S...

Re: Oscars 2013
Seems like a decent list. I'm surprised The Dark Knight Rises was shut out. I thought Michael Caine might get a nom for Supporting Actor. Best Actress could be close between Lawrence and Chastain. The category I really enjoy is Best Animated Short. Seriously. I try to attend a screening of these nom...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
I expect DeNiro to win however no matter what. Tarantino's blood bath isn't going to play among Oscar voters (not that it would either). As for Silver Linings Playbook overall, Adapted Screenplay seems like it's best chance for a win. Jennifer Lawrence will get nominated for Best Actress, but will ...

Wall Street Journal article comparing film and TV
I liked this article about the current state of movies that asks if TV shows are better. The critic makes a good case for the merits of both mediums.

I think Paul's review is the first one I've seen in which the beginning of the movie is praised and the end criticized. Usually it's the other way around.

Re: MAN OF STEEL - Awful Trailers Officially Online
I agree about the state of contemporary film music. Like many of you I used to look forward to seeing new movies just because one of my favorite composers had written the music. That’s not the case any more. Andy said in the Willow thread that just because the music is a big orchestral fantasy score...

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947) 9/10 I hadn't seen this classic in a while and was glad to see that it holds up. Terrific performances all around from both the leads and the supporting cast. I had forgotten that Natalie Wood played the little girl. A very charming film that is very nicely paced. (I re...

SCROOGE (1970) 7/10 Well made musical version of the classic Dickens story with Albert Finney doing a fine job as the title character. The production design is terrific, jsut what you want to see in any adaptation of A Christmas Carol and the widescreen cinematography is great, too. The songs are hi...
