STAR TREK BEYOND - Now Featuring Rihanna's Hit Single!
Look guys, they're blowing up the Enterprise! I haven't seen that before!
It took 5 WRITERS to come up with this, by the way...

You beat by a handful of minutes on posting this.
The trailer...the music...everything... it just typifies everything that's wrong.
It's Fast and Furious in space!
'Nuff said.

At least you know what you're getting with THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS. This? Holy crap! Could they not come up with a better tailer?
Is this STAR TREK for hipsters?

This film is actually going to make Into Darkness look good by comparison.

I was thinking this film has the potential to make NEMESIS look like a masterpiece!Paul MacLean wrote:Ha!John Johnson wrote: Four writers and Simon Pegg.

At any rate, I wonder if we should have been expecting anything less. STAR TREK was about fun special effects and such but the trailer makes it look like the smart science fiction aspect of it is missing, and in its place is nothing but an ADD edit every second of non-stop action. I can't wait for the score (insert BARF emoticon here).

This looks about as bad as I had thought it would likely be.
It's truly a sad state of affairs.
Yet another infliction that cheapens the name "Star Trek".
What's truly unfortunate is that most of the young viewers who Paramount is desperately hoping to woo will have no clue what Star Trek was intended to be about in the first place.

Re: STAR TREK BEYOND - July 22nd - Trailer
Apparently they channeled GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY as an "inspiration" for this film and you can tell. Hey let's blow up the Enterprise and send them off to a planet with wacky aliens! lol
The trailer obviously hasn't been received very well, but at least Justin Lin said they scrubbed the movie of any INTO DARKNESS plot strands that might have been left over. This one will likely suck also, but at least it won't have any taste of that disaster left behind.

Obvious sign of major problems: Shohreh Aghdashloo (24, Beh-rooz's mom lol) has been cast as a new character in reshoots coming up next week.
Movie still scheduled to be released this summer. I love the line also that the movie has "many writers" -- another sure-fire sign of quality.

Oscar nominated and Emmy winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo (House Of Sand And Fog, House Of Saddam) has joined the third installment in the Star Trek series, Star Trek Beyond, which stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk. Also in the cast are Idris Elba and Simon Pegg (credited as one of the film’s many writers).
The film, which we hear is undergoing some reshoots next week with Aghdashloo playing the role of the High Command of the Federation, is being directed by Justin Lin.
Re: STAR TREK BEYOND - July 22nd
Not a surprise, frankly.
This is shaping up to be a potential bomb, not just the serious disappointment that happened with Into Darkness three years ago. (It's notable that they slashed the budget by 25% for this third movie)
It's truly a sad state of affairs for the Star Trek universe.
Hopefully the new webisode series can actually achieve something more interesting on its low budget.
From the looks of it, the movie series is potentially going to end right here, which would probably be a good thing in the long run.
Perhaps in years to come we'll be able to put the JJ Abrams attempts at Trek out of mind and just appreciate the fine television episodes that were presented in the actual history of the franchise. And perhaps some of the younger viewers of these new movies will be able to look up those older episodes and learn what Star Trek was really about.

Actually makes one long for the superstar hit single "A Star Beyond Time", as performed indelibly by one S. Cassidy...
