Fox has done a good job with the isolated scores over the years, even recently with the PLANET OF THE APES Blu-Rays. Also don't forget they isolated the ALIEN score on the first DVD they released way back when, which included all of Goldsmith's unused cues in their (roughly) proper place, so this isn't entirely surprising.

I'd say this is the most eagerly awaited BD box-set of the end of the year.

I just hope that the movies will be made available seperately, and that there won't have a "bonus" disc only available with the boxet set (like the one which had all of the trailers and the laserdisc goodies from the DVD set). :? I have little desire to spend more money on Alien 3 and Ressurection.

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the UK Blu-ray Disc release of Alien Anthology on 25th October 2010. From the press release…

All four ALIEN films have been reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience. The release also marks the debut of MU-TH-UR Mode, a fully interactive companion that takes the extensive materials in the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY and puts them in the user's hand - connecting fans to special features on all six discs and instantly providing an index of all available ALIEN content, including over 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images. ALIEN ANTHOLOGY will also be available in a Limited Edition Collector's Set featuring 'The Guardian' - an exclusive illuminated egg statue sculpted by Sideshow Collectibles®.

The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is a truly unique home entertainment experience. For the first time ever, the studio has united the material from every home video release of the ALIEN saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 "Legacy" release and 2003's groundbreaking ALIEN QUADRILOGY release into one complete Blu-ray collection. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screen tests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original ALIEN, unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of ALIEN3," and much, much more.

The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is just one aspect of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's yearlong campaign to honor the studio's 75th birthday. This year the division will debut several select fan-favorites on Blu-ray for the first time ever including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge! and The Sound of Music.

I'm thrilled they've finally put that Burke Cocoon scene in from ALIENS...it's never been shown, never been put on laser or DVD, ever. I've never understood why, but it's finally there in the supplements.

This set is going to be terrific. The QUADRILOGY release (what a stupid name) was one of the crown jewels of DVD, and this is going to be even better. I give Fox credit because THE OMEN and PLANET OF THE APES BD sets were also very well done -- they're one of the only studios that seems willing to go the distance with special features on Blu.

Eric -- I think that late October date is going to be pretty firm.

The only question is what the movies look like. After PREDATOR I'd ordinarily be worried, but I'm pretty sure Ridley Scott's company and Charlie deLauzirika were involved in the transfers so hopefully we'll avoid a repeat of that disaster.

I'd still have loved to see Charlie's complete ALIEN 3 documentary put on there -- he lamented the fact that Fox cut "the best parts" out of it to avoid controversy, but what's there was still excellent.

Andy, I think they actually are including di Lauzirika's original piece on ALIEN 3, or at least that's what they're saying in the press release.

I'm just a little confused, as I remember hearing sometime late last year that Sigourney Weaver was doing new commentaries for all 4 movies, and I don't see that listed in the features here.

There's also some material that is still exclusive to the 1999 20th Anniversary DVD release of ALIEN - the production audio track, which I always found really interesting.

But, given the other materials they've now included, I suppose I might pick this up...

Yes David, you're right, thanks for pointing that out. Even more reason to get this one!

I wonder if the new BD's "Composer's Original Isolated Score by Jerry Goldsmith" isn't going to be the 1999 DVD's track you are referring to...didn't that track have Goldsmith's original score on it?

Michael we're going to get you a player before Christmas...in fact I'm sure you can get in on some great deals between now and then :)

I certainly hope these transfers are excellent...we'll have to see. If they are good, they'll join some superb catalog releases that I'd recommend to any new BD owner (like BLADE RUNNER, CE3K, the Bond titles, etc.).

Certainly the specs, and everything about this release, look phenomenal.

Thanks for the props Andy.

You're absolutely right about the audio track as heard on the 1999 DVD.
Looking at the DVD insert, I see under the Special Features:

"Isolated Music Score by Jerry Goldsmith, presented for the first time in its original unaltered form, including previously unreleased music"

and

"Isolated Alternate Music and Production Audio Track, reflecting music changes made in post production and raw audio from the set, including alternate dialogue"

That does not sound like the same thing as the "Final Theatrical Isolated Score" or the "Composer's Original Isolated Score". I have a feeling the Blu-ray has uninterrupted music without the raw production audio I crave.

BTW when it comes to really good Blu transfers, I would second the motion on Blade Runner, CE3K and the Bonds. I would add to that The Robe, The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind and the Kubrick SE's of a couple years back. Seeing the opening helicopter shot from The Shining in high definition widescreen was lovely. And seeing the "Dawn of Man" sequence from 2001 in high def actually caused me to notice details like the shadows of the lights behind the photo backings...
