Box-Office FRIDAY 9/2 Estimates

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

SOUND OF THUNDER didn't even crack the top 10! (unless these Showbizdata.com estimates are wrong, we're talking a flop of extraordinary proportions).

TRANSPORTER 2, THE 5.7 5.7
40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, THE 3.5 59.0
CONSTANT GARDENER, THE 2.2 4.0
RED EYE 2.0 38.7
BROTHERS GRIMM, THE 1.6 21.4
FOUR BROTHERS 1.3 58.9
WEDDING CRASHERS 1.1 190.7
MARCH OF THE PENUINS 1.0 59.2
SKELETON KEY, THE .8 40.5
CAVE, THE .8 9.8

Amazing. I still have zero desire to see any movie on these lists.

I have to say RED EYE was a lot of fun. Not worth $10 but definitely enough entertainment for a rental (and Rachel McAdams is always worth a rental!).

40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN was very, very funny. A bit choppy at times but it got the job done, and had some big laughs.

BROTHERS GRIMM.............yikes!

I must admit, I've really wanted to go out to see a movie but for the last two-three weeks there's only been one movie I'm even remotely interested in seeing playing anywhere, and since it's such a long schlepp to the local multiplex I usually like to catch 2-3 on the same trip.

SOUND OF THUNDER took in -- ready? -- $280,000 on Friday night for a per-screen average of $343  Even on 800+ screens that's pretty sad

THE WOODS looks fairly intriguing (opens on the 16th)...as does EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will be kind to genre fare. God knows there's enough of it on TV to last for several normal TV seasons! :)

Scratch that: THE WOODS has no firm release date :(

Damn movie's been on the shelf so long people forget Shyamalan had to change the name of THE VILLAGE because of it! :)

According to this morning's Variety figures, Sound of Thunder did $1.2m. Personally, I'm gutted - that means that Michael Bay's The Island is no longer the flop of the summer...

Oh, hang on a minute - the summer season's over - Michael Bay's The Island WAS the flop of the summer!

Yeah, America!!! (Sometimes they get it right)
