By the way...any word on the possibility of an isolated score on The Bounty?

I guess with four out of ten likely ones in the last batch for me, it evens things out for there to be none this time! :)

Bit the bullet and purchased the OOP THE TRAIN via ebay this week-when it was available for a short time the funds were not there, but since I have always loved it and that MGM postage stamp DVD just did not cut it, just had to have it. Paid $65 with free shipping and just looked at some parts of it tonight-WOW! Cannot wait to watch it completely later this week. Damn! The combination of Frankenheimer and Lancaster ranks up there with Scorsese and DeNiro, IMHO.

My copy of The Bounty arrived. Lovely transfer, and the isolated music track for the most part sounds good, even for mono.

In a couple of scenes tho, score and source music (native percussion, and/or the blind fiddler) play simultaneously, but such instances are fortunately few.

I imagine there's going to be glut of bootleg CDs in the wake of this release (shades of Blade Runner). Then again, maybe that will nudge Vangelis / the publishers to finally allow a legitimate release! 8)

Hi Paul

Dose the MGM logo still roar over the opening bars of the score?

Did some work on this when it was with EMI in the UK & always thought it was sad that the MGM logo was over the opening bars of the title score, which the EMI version did not as they had a silent logo.

thanks in advance

Someone at MGM fixed it, the music starts after the MGM logo now.

In US theaters, this played with the Orion logo (since they distributed it), so it never used to be a problem until MGM started slapping their own logo all over everything in the DVD era.

I thought of Radio Days, too - knowing how it is liked on this board. :)

But I ended up after really thinking about it, with THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, LA BAMBA and UNDER FIRE (of course, for Jerry Goldsmith's score).

Even at the discounted $20 price, my final cost will be over $30 (CDN) each.

Oh, and I ordered an autographed copy of Benjamin Wallfisch's DESERT DANCER. 8)

 Not too happy with SAE right now....got paid today and planned on making a purchase from the Twilight Time sale later this morning. Unfortunately I got called in to work unexpectedly and they frown on using the computer for personal stuff so I copied down the number so I could call and place my order at the beginning of my lunch period. I tried calling before Noon twice but just as the phone started ringing I got called into meetings both times and did not get freed up until afternoon (also had a late lunch). Tried calling again (540) 635-2575 and this time the number just rang and rang and rang until finally a voice came on saying that "the voice mail box you have called is not set up yet-please try again later." I hung up and wondering if I dialed the wrong number (I double-checked when I got home, BTW) dialed it again and got the same results. By the time I got home the sale was officially over and I got screwed. I sent an email to SAE explaining what happened and also posted on their FB page. After this I am tempted to not order anything else from them if this is the way they treat customers.

I've never had much problem with them ... the owner Craig Spaulding seems to encourage more than just the major film music labels and as far as I know puts his own money into product.

Their second hand section is great when you can't afford new releases (and I've never had a problem being refunded when they have sent me something sub-standard). It helps that they regularly seem to be making pricing errors these days Island at the Top of the World, The Robe Varese Club, Hunt for Red October expanded were all $9 recently; Herrmann's Great Thrillers on Music Fidelity for $10. I've picked up a few goodies. :)

YMMV (as it seems to).

Not to demean your post Jeff but rule #1 is never wait until the very last minute to get in on a sale! I'm not the biggest SAE fan either based on my past experiences but in this case you have to admit your own work situation was mostly responsible for you not being able to place an order...which is why you shouldnt wait until the last minute. Too much can go wrong and I wouldn't trust phone ordering anymore In this day and age!!
