Phil Joanou on Tangerine Dream

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

You needn't have seen THREE O'CLOCK HIGH to enjoy this story of director Phil Joanou working with Tangerine Dream on the score to his first movie.

The film ended up being augmented by "Additional Music by Sylvester Levay" and a bouncy song from a high school friend of Joanou's -- both of whom lightened the tone of the music a little bit.

His story is right at the top of this video with Seth Green:

Never was much of a fan of Tangerine Dream, whose scores don't do much to enhance the drama, or possess much in the way of emotional resonance. It doesn't surprise me that they entirely missed the point that 3 O'Clock High was a comedy!
