Weekend Box Office 1/7 - JUMANJI Tops, STAR WARS Tumbles to #3

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

While JUMANJI has permanently set itself up as "the movie" to carry multiplexes thru the first part of 2018, STAR WARS tumbles to #3 and continues to suffer the biggest declines in series history.

Yes it has made lots of money, but it's STAR WARS -- are we supposed to throw a party for that fact? Any way you slice it, a $300 mil domestic drop from THE FORCE AWAKENS and bad word of mouth spells bad news for Disney's franchise going forward. Time to start making a quality product instead of just meeting release dates.

I'm sure we can count on a walk-on from China's #1 box office draw in the next one! That's actually incredibly poor but I don't know the historical performance of this series, and whether it translates to that part of the world.
