Peeping Tom 50th Anniversary Blu-ray Announced

#1 Post by John Johnson »

Optimum Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Michael Powell's controversial 1960 film Peeping Tom, digitally restored, for November 22. Additionally, this film will also be shown in UK cinemas on November 19, in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The BD is labeled as region B.

Special features include:
Introduction by Martin Scorsese
Interview with Thelma Schoonmaker
Commentary by Ian Christie
The Eye of the Beholder: Scorsese, Schoonmaker and Christie among others talk about the film
The Strange Gaze of Mark Lewis: the psychology of protagonist

Peeping Tom was released in 1960 shortly before Hitchcock's equally shocking Psycho, and provoked British critics to a fury of disgust. Powell's career never recovered from the scandal. But twenty years later, Peeping Tom was hailed as a misunderstood masterpiece – especially by filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, who submitted the film to the New York Film Festival in 1979 and helped finance a US re-release, allowing it to be rediscovered by a new audience. Today its wit, beauty and power see it rightly celebrated as a classic.
