Christopher Nolan is bucking the current trend of 3-D mania, by opting to shoot the next Dark Knight movie in 2-D.

Essentially he thinks 3-D would be too much of a deviation from the look of the previous Batman films. The article also says exhibiting the film in IMAX "will let him take the third film in the series into a new strata as far as image quality and the scale that can be achieved with that quality".
I a get strong sense that Nolan thinks IMAX, not 3-D, is the future of enhanced theatrical exhibition.
If so, he's right.
No 3-D for Dark Knight sequel -- IMAX instead

Watching one of Nolan's shakey-cam fight scenes in 3D would probably have theaters handing out barf bags with each ticket purchase.
