Independent U.S. distributors Kino Lorber announced today that due to contractual issues their upcoming Blu-ray release of Mario Bava's Black Sabbath/Black Sunday (U.S. Release Versions) has been canceled.

In the U.S., Black Sabbath/Black Sunday was scheduled to be released on Blu-ray on October 7th.

Currently, the Canadian listing for Black Sabbath/Black Sunday is still active.

When Mario Bava's groundbreaking films BLACK SUNDAY and BLACK SABBATH were introduced to the U.S. market, American International Pictures retooled the films for the release. In addition to being redubbed in English (allowing viewers to hear the actual voice of Boris Karloff, rather than an Italian voice actor), the films were given new musical scores (by Ultra-lounge legend Les Baxter) and re-edited (with additional footage shot by Bava himself). Bava's personal favorite of his films, BLACK SABBATH is a trilogy of terror, best remembered for the segment in which Karloff plays a vampire hunter whose family is stalked by an undead spirit. BLACK SUNDAY stars Barbara Steele as a woman executed for witchcraft, who returns to carry out vengeance upon the family of her tormentors.
