STAR WARS Spinoffs "On Pause" after SOLO Crashes

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

No surprise -- but Disney should rethink Rian Johnson's hiring for a "new trilogy" after his botched sequel as well.

I think Disney in the big picture may be surprised that the initial, mass enthusiasm that greeted THE FORCE AWAKENS is gone and isn't ever coming back. This isn't Marvel and relies a lot on fan goodwill (so to speak) to carry it forward -- the grace period expired with THE LAST JEDI and while these films can still certainly be lucrative (provided they're kept in check financially), IMO they're going to find (if they haven't realized already) that they've already hit their ceiling.

As said before many times, they should have been smarter and produced a better story with more time to breathe inbetween sequels -- keep STAR WARS "special" and not exploited it as they have.

I strongly believe they'll go slow with any further trilogy plans until they can really come up with a better plan.

The Star Wars movies are not like the Marvel comics franchise - there's not that much story to tell, and they need to be careful about how they tell it.
