Weekend Box Office 7/3 - Pre-Fourth Openers Fizzle

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

Soft start for INDY in another bad Hollywood weekend -- the Dreamworks 'toon TEENAGE KRAKEN (which Theo wanted to see) bombed completely despite good reviews.

It's looking like movie-going remains something of a fleeting interest for casual viewers. There's still not enough of a real marketplace supporting regular attendance on a weekly basis even if there are new movies opening. Despite the bad reviews and word of mouth, in the old days INDY would've at least opened higher than $60 million (Crystal Skull's opening was $100 mil adjusted).

At least TRANSFORMERS has held in there, and (while not adjusted for inflation) has managed to domestically outgross BUMBLEBEE and even the previous franchise entry, THE LAST KNIGHT.

Note this opening for INDY might be lower, under the lower end of $60 mil estimates.
