Kosinski returns, hopefully.
Must have hit some merchandising milestone, though I could pass on Jared Leto!

Re: TRON 3 Lives Again, Taps "Lion" Director & Jared Leto
...and 3 years later, it's happening.
One wonders if the theme park ride coming to Disney World in March had anything to do with this (my guess: yes!).

Disney's so desperate for recognizable IPs to plunder they're making sequels to flop movies now...!

Tron Legacy wasn't really a flop. Did $200 mil adjusted domestic back in 2010, $400 mil worldwide. Budget was high though which was the issue. Either way it did better than Blade Runner 2049 and the property has a lot of value in terms of games and other peripheral stuff (soundtrack was a huge seller too). Plus they have the ride to pivot off at the theme park, just like Avatar

Not entirely! Tron wasnt what they were hoping for but it was not a total bust: it was Disney's highest grossing movie apparently for 5 full years. Did $50 mil on a $17 mil budget. Did loads of merchandising and game sales. So no it definitely wasn't Star Wars but it did a lot better than The Thing and Blade Runner did back in the summer of 82.
I think it was more that people were disappointed in it in terms of story and content, so that it had a bad reputation more that way than for how much money it didn't make.
