It's a lame summer when SHREK 4 is #1 for the second or third week in a row, thanks again to being in 3-D and the most amount of screens.

I did see GET HIM TO THE GREEK (the sorta-sequel to FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL), which was quite funny, and it opened decently, which is better than you can say for SPLICE and MARMADUKE which both tanked. The Ashton Kutcher-Katherine Heigl KILLERS was apparently so bad it wasn't screened for critics!

Seriously, when is Hollywood going to turn out movies people want to see??!

i guess with SPLICE the studio made a bad decision trying to sell a smart small arthouse SF film as something like SPECIES and put it in the summer slot...

im sure it wasnt very expensive and the director and co didnt really think it would be a big summer hit...

it probably would have done better in a winter release...

I don't know if SPLICE is truly an "art house movie" or just a junky genre film masquerading as something more than it truly is.

Apparently there are two camps on SPLICE -- the critics/audiences who think it's a seriously good movie, and then others (the majority?) who hate it, and have reacted with laughter at the movie's sex scenes. I've read a lot of accounts from viewers who said theaters erupted in spontaneous laughter during numerous scenes in the film.

Certainly the Cinemascore ranking SPLICE received -- a D -- is poor (and also rare) but bears out that most paying audiences hated it. (I actually want to see it for that reason!).

Either way, WB saved it from becoming a Sci-Fi Channel original movie by buying it. Surprising it had a budget of $30 million though -- they obviously won't be making that back.

I hope PREDATORS turns out better for Adrien Brody. Two genre bombs in a row wouldn't be a good thing!

well i havent seen it, so I cant judge yet. The director however has been far from making cheap-species-ripoff **** so far, so Id be surprised if he landed a silly b-movie-bomb... im surprised a bit about the height of the budget, but apparently the fx are very very good.
Friends of mine saw it last year at a festival and thought it was very good, though very slow and talky, no action at all. The trailers definitely sell it wrongly and to the wrong audience. No wonder it rates poorly.

maybe it is bad, but so far I think the bad word of mouth comes only from the bad marketing and I find that very sad that WB didnt trust the source to ad it as what it is. I mean why buying a slow drama and then sell it as an actionfilm? The bad opening I think is due people knew already it isnt what it was advertised for... internet you know? haha...

well... I can certainly wait for DVD, as I dont need to see a slow talky film on the big screen...

I thought Splice was loads of fun. A shame it's done so poorly.
