Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (US and UK) in August

#1 Post by John Johnson »

Park Circus have announced the UK DVD/Blu-ray Dual Format Edition release of Pandora and the Flying Dutchman on 9th August 2010. Originally released in 1951, this film is writer, producer and director Albert Lewin’s lushly romantic Technicolor visualisation of the often-told legend of the sea. A glamorous Ava Gardner is Pandora, who falls hard for the charismatic James Mason as Hendrik, a 17th-century seaman eternally condemned to sail the oceans.

The quintessential Lewin film, Pandora and the Flying Dutchman was a production made independently of the Hollywood studios, and its original camera negative has been presumed lost for several decades. Working from a nitrate separation positive and other sources, George Eastman House has supervised a painstaking 35mm restoration of the film, bringing back the rich palette of deep, sensuous colours utilised by renowned cinematographer Jack Cardiff.

Priced at £19.99 RRP, this Dual Format Edition release includes both Blu-ray and DVD presentations in one package with the following extras:
Original Hedda Hopper trailer
Original black and white trailer
2010 theatrical re-release trailer
Vintage short film Death of Manolete (1946)
Alternate opening titles
