Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry Blu-Rays - October

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

Just saw the pre-orders. I personally think the Looney Tunes set -- which is 3 discs but only 50 cartoons on 2 of them -- is priced too high at $38 (for the Digibook) and $51 (the limited edition with Jerry Beck's 52-page book and shotglass). The Tom & Jerry set, which is only $23, offers 2 discs with 37 shorts on there.

That said, I would absolutely support these because if they don't sell, Warner's won't be releasing any other classic animation releases on Blu-Ray, and from all accounts, the HD remastered transfers are leagues better than DVD.

Maybe the prices will come down as the time gets nearer to release.

I'm tempted by the Looney Tunes set but to be honest I am kind of tired of buying the same stuff over and over again. It looks like there are a few new cartoons on there but most of them I think I already have on the Golden Collection DVD releases from back in the day.

I know what you're saying Michael, but on the other hand, personally I'd want some of the best cartoons on this one release because they're in HD. This may be the only release of Looney Tunes on Blu unless it sells, so if this is my one chance to get some of those classics in high-def, I like the roster (I just want more, greedy person that I am, lol). It also doesn't make much marketing sense for Warners to populate it with obscure 'toons nobody has ever heard of or would appeal strictly to die-hards.

They DID put a few cartoons on there that haven't been on DVD, and haven't been seen since the laserdisc days, so I think they're aware that the hardcore needs more than rehashed content. They're throwing them a bone while putting most of the true classics on there.

Those prices are also unlikely to drop any more until release date BTW -- they actually just went down further which is why I put it up there ;)

Let's just hope it sells :)
