I remember watching AUTO-FOCUS with my wife when we were still dating. Not exactly a date movie! What were we thinking? It's good with some excellent performances, but not one I ever want to see again. I admire the film for having the courage to take sexual addiction seriously and show its ugly side, but it is very difficult to watch.

Yeah that's a definite tough watch. I remember not liking Kinnear very much in it -- in fact I just looked up my review from 15 years ago (omg) and that's exactly what I wrote!

I did not see that with my future wife, though I was dating her at the time.

However, I remember going to two horrendous date movies before I met her though -- one was THE ASTRONAUT'S WIFE, the other was STIR OF ECHOES. Those were one-and-done dates (can't imagine why!).

For the record, what are some good "date movies" you've been to?

Thinking back, before I met Joanne, I remember GOOD WILL HUNTING and THE WEDDING SINGER being good, quality movies I saw with a date. POCAHONTAS was a good choice too, I saw that with a girl who was into me but not really vice versa (I recently found out she's married...to a woman!).

Movies as bad as Astronauts Wife or with a rape sequence like Stir of Echoes...not so much. The latter really bummed out the girl I was with (and that was going nowhere anyway but I could tell it really grossed her out).

BLUE DENIM (1959) BLU-RAY - April 17th

I saw the trailer for this movie once on TCM (narrated by Joan Crawford!). That was enough for me.

And I always thought Bernard Herrmann and this movie were a genuinely odd pairing.

From those titles, a Schultz quotation will suffice. "I see nothing."
