I'll be VERY surprised if it plays within shouting distance of Boston.

The article says it will be going wide, but I wonder how much of that is going to depend on how good the film is. I can see them scaling back those plans if it's any kind of disappointment.

All the more reason I'll probably wait and watch it at home.

As desperate as I am to see this on a movie screen, there's no way in HELL I'm making it through without a pee break. :x Give us an intermission, at least!

3.5 hours? No thanks. I've never sat through a theatrical movie that long and don't intend to either.

Sounds like Scorsese knew he was making something for Netflix and it's probably going to play just as well at home anyway. There's no way the movie would have ever run that long if it was intended strictly for theatrical playback. He would've had to cut a half hour out of it at least.

After seeing the awkward de-aging FX in IT CHAPTER TWO, I'm even more worried this is going to be a major distraction -- especially since there's supposedly a lot of it.

The strange thing is it's not just the wrinkle lines -- it does odd things to the shape of faces and how it looks on the body too.

Owen G. loved it in Variety (I stopped reading because it's ridiculously plot heavy) -- here's a sample of reviews (non spoilers) in Hollywood Reporter's round-up:

Another flaw of Gleiberman's...he'll blatantly spoil major plot points in reviews.

Especially odd as De Niro won his first Oscar playing a younger version of Marlon Brando in Godfather II. Would that film have been better had this technology existed in 1974 and Brando had played his younger self? Whatever happened to just hiring a talented younger actor to play a character in flashbacks? :? It would have been cheaper and more convincing. I'm sure there are dozens of actors who would have leapt at the opportunity/challenge to play a young De Niro, Pesci or Pacino.

It's like that crappy, pre-Benjamin Button de-aging tech used on Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in X-Men: The Last Stand. Yeah, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender weren't exactly visual ringers for them in the subsequent prequels, but after a few minutes' worth of acclimation, you just didn't care.

Yeah, everybody's on board it seems except for the de-aging FX and some complaints over pacing. Hope it's as good as advertised!!

Just wish Anna Paquin wasn't in this. I absolutely can't stand her on this last season of THE AFFAIR.

I'm fine with waiting -- but looks like most everyone will be waiting.
“The Irishman,” which has received mostly rapturous reviews, is opening on eight screens in New York and Los Angeles. Netflix sent a bouquet to cinema lovers on the coasts by placing it in two grand venues, the 1,015-seat Belasco Theater, a Broadway theater in Manhattan, and the historic Grauman’s Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Starting Nov. 8, the run will expand to include select independent and small-chain movie houses in the country’s top 10 markets.

That is a long way from what theater owners had envisioned when they learned that the director of “Goodfellas,” “Casino” and “The Departed” was returning to his hit men and mob bosses.

It'll be hitting the Kendall Square Cinema the week of the 14th, so I can actually see it on the big screen. :D
