I wonder if Gabler is aware that Schlesinger was barely tolerated by the Kennedy boys (who once hurled their "court historian", fully clothed, into a swimming pool).
Arthur's most brazen act of sycophancy was to insist that JFK never recorded Oval Office conversations when news of the Nixon White House taping system came out during Watergate. The Kennedy Library was forced to correct him by acknowledging the existence of the more limited number of JFK recordings (most of which are now available to historians. They don't contain anything scandalous. It was just Artie trying to suggest that only evil Nixon would ever have dared to record in the Oval Office)
