It's just depressing that so many bright, talented indie darlings like Polley, Ryan Coogler, Barry Jenkins, Chloe Zhao and David Lowery get "rewarded" for their early successes by graduating to directing soulless, ugly remakes of classic Disney animated films, or getting their unique personalities crushed between the cogs of the MCU machinery. :( It's hard to remember that Coogler made the acclaimed Fruitvale Station, considering he's made nothing but a Rocky spin-off and two Black Panther movies in the TEN YEARS since. Livin' the dream...!

Imagine Martin Scorsese making Taxi Driver in 1976, then his next two movies turned out to be Rocky II and Return Of The Jedi. :? This is where we're at right now, where no young filmmaking talent is allowed to nurture their unique voice with exciting original projects, they just get stuck remaking a previous' generation's franchise sh!t. And for those who say, "Oh, they'll just use the clout they get from directing a box office hit to make their own movies!", the "One for them, one for me" model doesn't really exist anymore. Yeah, Sam Raimi got to make Drag Me To Hell after he finished his Spider-Man trilogy, but then his next movie was a Wizard Of Oz prequel for Disney, then nine years of nothin' (except the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV pilot) until a mercenary Dr. Strange sequel. Weirdly, one of the few filmmakers to take a Disney paycheck job who actually DID funnel that into original projects was Guy Ritchie, following up the mediocre Aladdin remake with four original projects in as many years (with a fifth currently filming). And good ones, too, even if they didn't set the box office ablaze.

Will no doubt serve-up a heavy-handed "anti-gun" message.
