THE ABYSS - 2014? / Transfer finished?

Sorry if there is already a thread for this but I searched and didn't see one. THE ABYSS is airing on Cinemax this month, in what looks to me like a true HD transfer. Widescreen, crystal clear. I've never seen it look this good. I know that Fox and Cameron have been working on a new transfer for Blu...

Re: RIP Paul Walker - FAST & THE FURIOUS - Dead at 40

Interesting Hollywood Reporter article on the insurance angle... Paul Walker's Death: Why 'Fast & Furious 7's' Insurer May Decide Movie's Fate http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/paul-walkers-death-why-fast-661727 Odd that this piece didn't mention BOURNE as Universal's other big live-action ...

Re: RIP Paul Walker - FAST & THE FURIOUS - Dead at 40

Everything I've been reading so far says that they were about halfway done with shooting, with Walker still to shoot several crucial scenes. It seems they'll need to do a substantial overhaul to finish what they've started. The most obvious route seems to me to make his character's death a key point...

Re: BOURNE Again for Renner; Justin Lin Directs

I'm surprised to see the apathy (or loathing) for SUPREMACY, which for my money is one of the best action movies of the past ten or fifteen years. I still haven't seen LEGACY so I don't have an educated opinion on the subject, though it's clear Universal will keep running the property into the groun...

It's certainly more conventional than I was expecting.

Re: THE COUNSELOR - Ridley Scott/Cormac McCarthy Thriller

AV Club's (positive) review: www.avclub.com/articles/the-counselor,104635/

I'm intrigued by the idea that in writing a screenplay, as opposed to a novel, McCarthy evidently manifests his themes textually rather than burying them.

Re: THE COUNSELOR - Ridley Scott/Cormac McCarthy Thriller

Cant see how this one proves to be a commercial success...its impossible to figure out the plot from the trailer too Yeah, what's odd to me is they're selling the depravity of the piece (see what that did for VERY BAD THINGS) and not the civilian-turned-drug-dealer story (see what that did for BREA...

Re: GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL - Wes Anderson, March 2014 - Traile

On the one hand, this looks entertaining as hell. On the other hand, I really wish Anderson would do something different one of these days. I realize that's unfair in a way because, as Andy correctly points out, his work is still better than the vast majority of what comes out these days. But still ...

Re: Criterion New Releases

I'm a little (but pleasantly) surprised to see THIEF among the new batch, though I guess if any Mann were going to make the Criterion cut it would be that one. Or perhaps MANHUNTER, which IMHO is strangely remembered as better than it actually is.

Re: Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Blu Ray.

Here's a (probably stupid) question - when BR's such as this are released overseas and are "region free," then obviously they should be able to play in any players in the US, but are there then any PAL/NTSC conversion issues such as speed up?

(back in the days when channel 38 showed gory horror and action movies with virtually no edits to the violence, like this and The Terminator , which didn't even snip Arnie's "F*ck yuoh, azzhole" line  ) Hahahahahahahahaha, YES. Channel 38. I remember Andy and I talking about that e...

Re: MONUMENTS MEN - Worst Trailer Music...Ever??

Interesting. They used music cribbing INCEPTION but not the Horn of Doom.

I like Clooney as a filmmaker but I think he's overrated as a writer. I look forward to liking this and completely forgetting about it. ;)

Re: HOBBIT Budgets Total $560 Million -- So Far

I think the success of LOTR was the worst thing that could've happened to Jackson creatively. He has no boundaries, no one to answer to, and the products of the the kind of fiefdom he lords over down in Wellington are the kind of self-indulgent, rudderless movies he's made since then - KING KONG, TH...
