Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Voted Series Worst By Fans

Personally, I'd rather watch an ambitious failure than a cynical, hackneyed retread.

Re: New "HARRY POTTER Universe" Prequel Series Set to Begin

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the appeal of the Desplat HP scores to most film score fans. Despite a few highlights they do nothing for me. It's hard to say how the adaptation will go - I'm guessing more of an adventure type movie with the fictional author in the lead - but with m...

Re: The Best Time to See THE CONJURING? Now

My screening was mostly fine (surprisingly) except that the idiot in front of me brought her 9-year-old daughter, who was terrified out of her mind for most of it. She asked to leave a half hour in and the mom basically chuckled as if to say "Oh child" Oh God, I despise parents who take t...

Re: INSIDIOUS Chapter 2 - "Lazy, Stupid, Incoherent Failure"

Boooooooooo. Wan is a supremely talented director but he needs to get away from Whannell as quickly as possible. In an interview with Collider this week he talked about how they've written a film noir and a science fiction film that he's really excited to make. I look forward to their stylish retrea...

Re: The Fugitive: 20th Anniversary BD

Thanks for your thoughts, Andy. What pisses me off is that WB thinks of this as a solid catalog title that will always sell at every level no matter what they do with it, and not the truly great film it is, so they don't put the care into the extras the film deserves. This is the "20th Annivers...

The Fugitive: 20th Anniversary BD

I'm curious if anyone picked this up yet and has any thoughts on the transfer vis-a-vis the prior release. While it's "newly remasted" and reportedly fixes the aliasing problems of the old release, a greenish tint has been added through the color correction process. See: http://forum.blu-r...

Re: Rate The Last TV Show Episode You Watched

My wife and I have just started watching BROADCHURCH, and while the story is grim, the acting is impeccable and the central mystery is enormously involving. We're a few behind but new run eps are still airing on BBC America. The plot is set in motion when an 11 year old boy is found dead on the beac...

Re: THE CONJURING - Ecstatic Reviews Pouring In

All I've ever read about Wan is that he's a genuinely nice, humble guy. I'm glad he's about to truly hit the big time with F&F 7. And like you pointed out, Andy, there is some real artistry in his filmmaking even in service of bland genre fare like DEATH SENTENCE. I'll be curious to see what he ...

Re: THE CONJURING - Haunted House RI Terror - July 19th

(and from most accounts, the film shouldn't even be R) Or, put another way, the film isn't rated R for sex or graphic violence or language - it has none of them. It's rated R simply for being intensely scary. THAT is amazing, particularly in this day and age of ultraviolent PG-13 releases. I love t...

Re: PROMETHEUS 2 - Looks Like It's Happening

I especially liked the way it incorporated philosophical questions about humanity and the relationship between man and creator. That's not something you typically see in a big budget sci-fi movie (or if you do, it's not handled very well.) The genre elements were well done as well. My big problem w...

Re: PROMETHEUS 2 - Looks Like It's Happening

I'll be happy as long as they don't revisit the sins of the first movie, which hopefully is more likely now that Lindelof isn't involved. PROMETHES actually angers me if I think about it too much. For a film that looks so immaculate and has so many interesting ideas in the set up to literally piss a...

Re: JAWS 2 on Blu-Ray...FINALLY

Let me just say that JAWS is my favorite movie, and it's very possible I've seen JAWS 2 more often than JAWS. I don't know what that says, really, except that I was a latchkey kid and had a lot of time on my hands. :) I'd definitely think hard about a BD for this. Can we confirm whether this is in f...
