Re: Weekend Box Office 4/29 - AVENGERS Romps

I suspect the trend will go down when “geek chic” wanes or is less tolerated. “Girls say No to boys who say Avengers Assemble.” 😀 Its tough to say with Star Wars. The Force Awakens was not an especially good movie—it certainly wasn’t original in any way—but it’s quality, or lack there of, didn’t eff...

Re: Weekend Box Office 4/29 - AVENGERS Romps

I own stock in Disney and have for some time. My concern is long-term. Currently, the film division is in four parts, two of which are Star Wars (Lucasfilm) and Marvel (the other two are Disney and Pixar). Right now Lucas and Marvel are the hottest thing going (and will be for ages from a merchandis...

Re: Weekend Box Office 4/29 - AVENGERS Romps

I wonder when then inevitable downward trend of comic book movies will occur? This is not a dig at CB movies (although I am sick of them) but it will happen, just as Westerns, Musicals, and other genres have dominated the market for a given period declined or vanished. On a side note, I suspect Star...

Re: STAR TREK Sequel Nabs Female Director -- But It's Not the Tarantino Script

I think Tarantino would have given it a personal, non-corporate spin. However, I suspect it also would have been indulgent crap.

Re: Westworld

I did watch Westworld Season One and thought the acting was tremendous, but everything else was so over-the-top it bordered on parody. It appears Season Two will be no different. I haven’t seen much of JJ’s product, but what I have seen hasn’t impressed me—with the possible exception of the first re...

Westworld

Did anyone else catch the Season Two opener? I am amazed at the amount of violence and bad language in this show. My wife works for giant cable company, so we get all the premium channels, but rarely—if ever watch any premium continuing series including Game of Thrones. Are they all this coarse? I’m...

Re: Beyond The Limit (1983) - Gere, Caine, and a Forgotten Film

I saw Beyond the Limit when it came out in 1983. I saw basically every movie released when I was in high school/college. I honestly wish I would have spent that time more wisely.

Amadeus is a masterpiece and Cuckoo’s Nest is excellent. A tip of the hat to a life well-lived.

Re: Rumor: Meryl Streep Replacing Carrie Fisher in STAR WARS EPISODE IX

I don’t necessarily see Star Wars lackluster contemporary sequels as a Disney issue. I just don’t think the framework is there for anything other than the original three stories—personally I feel Star Wars works best as a stand alone story (which I suspect all George Lucas meant it to be back in 197...

Re: READY PLAYER ONE - Spielberg - 2018 - Trailer

Ready Player One was about what I expected. Having not ready the book, I certainly didn’t expect a dark tone, and frankly the nature of the screen story benefited from a lighter touch in my opinion. There is a sequence which I will not spoil, that was worth my time and trouble all by itself. Also, d...

Re: Weekend Box Office 3/18 - What Else Is New?

I realize my age has a lot to due with it (I’m 53), but I have never seen such an uninspiring lineup at the cinema as 2018. The only major release that has caught my interest is The House with a Clock in its Walls, which is based on an excellent kid’s book from the 1970s. My interest is tempered by ...
