Re: Oscars to Hand Out 4 Awards, Including Cinematography, During Commercials

I don’t think I’ve watched the Oscars since “Shakespeare in Love” beat “Saving Private Ryan” for Best Picture. I don’t plan on breaking my streak this year as I have only seen one film nominated for Best Picture and it stunk. Unless they were ineligible due to Academy rules, the notion that “They Sh...

Re: WATERLOO (1970) Coming on Blu-Ray

I wish Waterloo would get a US release. Sure, Rod Steiger is a hambone, but Christopher Plummer is perfect as Wellington and the battle scenes are amazing. I would probably rather see this on the big screen than (almost) any of the **** released in the last ten year, or more depressingly yet, anythi...

Re: BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY's Incredible Run Continues; Nabs Best Picture/Actor at Globes

I just read that Bohemian Rhapsody’s upset win over A Star is Born created “outrage” on the internet. I feel dumber sharing this story, than I did when I read the story.

Re: Weekend Box Office 11/4 - BOHEMIAN Big, NUTCRACKER Bombs

I don’t think either Wrinkle or Nutcracker (the original properties) had a chance under the current thinking at Disney. I also think Star Wars is doomed if agenda trumps story.

Re: Weekend Box Office 11/4 - BOHEMIAN Big, NUTCRACKER Bombs

I wonder if the financial disaster of Wrinkle in Time and presumably The Nutcracker will reign in the PC madness at Disney. To a non-believer these types of movies have all the appeal of the heavily Christian themed fare like God’s not Dead. If I were on Disney’s board or a major stockholder I would...

Re: Weekend Box Office 10/14 - Venom, Gaga Stay on Top

I took my daughter to see First Man and didn’t find it anti-American in the least. I also didn’t think it was an especially good movie either. First Man is told from the VERY melancholy point of Neil Armstrong. In the early going Armstrong loses his baby daughter to cancer and according to the movie...

Re: HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE - Netflix

I bailed after episode three. One critic carped (I am paraphrasing), It’s so far from the source material, Netflix should have called it Crazy people who might,or might not, have seen ghosts. I couldn’t agree more. I’m reminded of a story Robert Wise told; The Haunting screen writer, Nelson Gidding ...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

I liked Solo a lot more than you guys (I think it’s the best of the Disney-era Star Wars movies, which admittedly is not saying much) but I wanted to warn/alert anyone looking into buys the Blu ray to understand that it looks terrible—probably the worst looking studio film I’ve seen in many years. I...

Re: rate the last movie you saw

My daughter and I saw Jaws (****) and 2001: A Space Odyssey (****) in the last week at local theaters, 2001 in IMAX. I am not using hyperbole when I say, it reminded me why I got obsessed with movies in the first place.

Re: Neil Armstrong Movie Airbrushes History

I don’t want to get too political but, from my personal observations liberals/leftists/progressives frequently display disdain for the US if a non-liberal is in the White House. If President Obama or Hillary Clinton were president the US flag would have appeared. Conservative/right wingers *tend* no...

Re: Neil Armstrong Movie Airbrushes History

I was five at the time, so I don’t remember any controversy about the flag. However, if it was that controversial, there should have been a short scene discussing the situation and then a scene with Armstrong planting the American flag. What I do remember reading was the moon landing brought America...
