Re: Star Trek - The Motion Picture DIRECTOR'S EDITION on Paramount+ Live: Quick Impressions
Was the scene with Spock's tear in any of the prints released theatrically in '79? I saw the film in the theater when I was a kid, and I could swear I remember Spock "crying." Is my mind playing tricks on me? Perhaps I'm thinking of a longer TV broadcast version? I haven't seen the "D...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
But ultimately, the biggest problems with The Green Knight are its convoluted, incohesive script, and its agonizingly boring pace, which render the whole movie an emotional flatline. Truly, this is one of the most slow-moving films I've ever seen. I agree with every word of your review, Paul. Great...

Re: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 4K UHD/Blu-Ray $9
I missed the sale price, too! But thank you for the head's up all the same, Andy! I'll try to be quicker on the draw next time. It sounds like a great package.

Re: THE BATMAN - March 2022 - New Trailer
Already proclaimed as a masterwork by the same people who think every new comic-book movie is like the latest work from Lean, Welles or Truffaut in their prime, THE BATMAN looks the part -- and pretty much nothing else. The plodding pace and lack of humor become so grating and repetitious it's like...

Re: Spielberg Wants To Make a BULLITT Sequel -- in 2022
And that was okay with me the last time I saw that scene. It didn't seem like he was injecting one philosophy over another, but merely an observation of the co-existence of two alongside each other (I live that kind of existence now, but I am hoping for my wife to finally come around...and she does...

Re: Spielberg Wants To Make a BULLITT Sequel -- in 2022
It was at the time near Bush's end of term and Obama's rise that something must have shifted his thinking much more left that it did. I always saw him as a JFK Democrat up until that point, but certainly he's an Obama type now. This distinction for me, in the context of this this discussion, is imp...

Re: Spielberg Wants To Make a BULLITT Sequel -- in 2022
And virtually no one cares about BULLITT. Even among most movie buffs I've ever talked to it's the movie with "the car chase" and that's about it. It's not a popular, enduring picture unless you are a McQueen fan...and there aren't a lot of them out there anymore. That's just the reality....

Re: Remembering BRAINSTORM - Popular Mechanics Article
Superb article on the making of this "interesting" if not altogether successful Douglas Trumbull picture, with a lot of good information about how MGM tried to shut the film down and how close the film came to being unfinished. https://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/movies/a25654064/sci...

Re: THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER (1982) Finally Coming to 4K/Blu-Ray
A movie that had a fraction of CONAN's budget -- and came within $500,000 of OUT-grossing it! Now that's some fascinating trivia! I had no idea about its commercial success. I have tried to watch it on Amazon Prime, but can only find the MST3K (or RiffTrax?) version. What little I saw of it was pre...
