Re: DEADPOOL - R-rated Weekend Record Ahead?
I also greatly enjoyed this (8.5/10), which was breezy, concise, and had just the right ratio of snark to giddy gore-a-thon action that didn't quite tip its way over into being truly disgusting. One critic dubbed it "The most profane, violent Bugs Bunny cartoon ever", and that pretty much ...

Re: JASON BOURNE - July 29 - Trailer
Believe me, I don't like being the one guy in the room who doesn't get it...and I watched all three, despite not liking the first one that much, hoping for them to finally "click".AndyDursin wrote:Just must be one of those things you don't connect with.

Re: JASON BOURNE - July 29 - Trailer
While the seizure-cam editing of the Greengrass sequels was the main reason I found them intolerable, I wasn't even a fan of the first Jason Bourne movie...it wallowed in rote espionage clichés (how many fricking spy movies are there about the former badass assassin suffering from convenient amnesia...

Bound to make some cash. DAMON: I'm through with Jason Bourne! [string of box office flops] DAMON: Uh, I have an idea for a new Bourne movie... Take that, Jeremy Renner! Hell, the Renner one was the only entry in the series I kinda-sorta liked . At least it didn't look like it was shot...

Re: Weekend Box Office 2/7 - Soft Super Bowl 3-Day
Piss-poor opening for The Choice as well, and for a Nicholas Sparks romance opening a week before Valentine's Day, that's awfully surprising. Then again, even fans of this kind of dross must be realizing at this point that Sparks is just doing Mad Libs reheating of the same plot he's written for twe...

Re: THE VISIT - M. Night Shyamalan's Latest - September
I have no idea why critics gave Shyamalan a (mild) pass on this, as it's every bit as bad as Lady In The Water and The Happening. At least those films had the modest pleasures of James Newton Howard's fine music.

Re: DEADPOOL Movie - Morena Baccarin Nabs Female Lead
I just wonder how the rating will affect the box office...the last hard-R superhero movie was Watchmen , and I still remember reading horror stories of parents walking out in a huff dragging their traumatized, bawling kids. Granted, Deadpool being an outright comedy makes this a slightly different c...

Re: Hail Caesar - Coen Bros., February 5th
Movies about old-timey Hollywood are never popular with the masses. As soon as a movie starts showing 40's or 50's studio backlots, the majority of moviegoers will automatically tune out. There aren't many people who give a damn about cinema made before the 80's at the latest, sad to say, and they c...

Re: Hail Caesar - Coen Bros., February 5th
7/10 One of the Coens' "Way Homer" movies ('cause you only get 'em on the way home [pops open beer]), Hail Caesar has plenty of stuff to recommend it (I'm sure that "Squint against the grandeur!" will join my personal collection of go-to Coen Quotes, and Channing Tatum's big musi...

Re: THE VISIT - M. Night Shyamalan's Latest - September
2/10 As appealing as having a doody-filled adult diaper smashed in your face (which -- I poop you not -- actually happens in this movie  ), Shyamalan's latest embarrassment is not only as tone-deaf and laughable as anything else he's made in the last decade, but hanging a movie's would-be thr...

Seeing this with my Dad tomorrow...he loves O Brother, Where Art Thou?, so the Coen name was more than enough to get him interested.

Re: Olive Films - April Announcements
Cameron wasted twelve years of his life picking over the bones of the Titanic in a series of documentaries, and now it looks like he'll waste another dozen years cranking out Avatar sequels, instead of taking just a handful of days off to supervise/approve some HD transfers of his earlier films.

Yes, Sibling Rivalry is coming to BD, but not The Abyss or True Lies.
