If I watch "horror" movies for the Halloween season I pretty much do that the last weekend before 10/31. We're not there yet but I do have them picked out...

Re: SOLO: A Star Wars Story - May 25th - "I've Got a Bad Feeling About This"
Biggest problem for them is this was their own doing. Again, Release dates came before stories and directors. Plus you start a new trilogy without a clear story line carrying it over from one installment to the next? While these may have been detriments to these particular movies, historically, suc...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
Well we are entering Holy Week. Owing to the pressures of life and work, I may not find time to go through as many films as I ordinarily do at this time of year but I will try to do what I can (the annual viewing of POTC will take place on Good Friday as I always do it). It took me a minute to figu...

Re: John Williams to Retire from STAR WARS
Hopefully EPISODE IX isn't his last score altogether. It'd be disappointing to end his illustrious, brilliant career with another of these increasingly mediocre Disney-suit-engineered projects. I certainly hope it won't be his last score, but in any case, I don't find his EPISODE IX score disappoin...

Re: Oscars 2018 - Nominations
I wonder if the sagging ratings have more to do with lack of interest in the current Hollywood output or in the awards ceremony itself. Are those who buy most movie tickets also those who will sit through the (long) awards ceremony? I myself used to (years ago when I still had a VHS recorder hooked ...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI - Official Thread SPOILERS!
I feel a disturbance at the box-office! I find it a curious notion that if a Studio expects (or hopes) that their movie will make $1,000,000,000 and makes only $600,000,000 that it's a "box-office bomb" and a disaster. Really what that means is they will just have to re-evaluate next year...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII: THE LAST JEDI - Official Thread SPOILERS!
I see the same flaws (for the most part) that have been detailed several times in this thread already, but they seem to upset me less than they do others, I just don't take these movies seriously enough to get that worked up about it. The flaws that I also see in eps. I-III don't keep me from enjoyi...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2017
Anybody got any scary movie viewings planned? :( I like to wait until closer to the end of the month. My taste in "horror" movies tends towards the "classic" (and not so classic) horrors of the 1930s-1950s. I expect to watch my new Mummy Blu-rays (Mummy's Hand/...Tomb/...Ghost/....

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - 3/5
First time I've seen it at the theater since...1982.
Loved it when I was 18. Liked it when I was 23. It's still good but the final 15 minutes are the payoff and it takes a long time to get there.
John Williams' score is 80% of the enjoyment.

Re: rate the last movie you saw
BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF Oh man is this movie AWFUL. Herrmann's score is great and all, and Twilight Time's Blu looks and sounds great, but what a dated if not laughable product of it's time. I saw this for the first time a little over a year ago. Certainly the Herrmann score is it's greatest asset...

Re: JUSTICE LEAGUE In All Kinds of Trouble?
I'm not a fan of "super hero" movies (although I've seen most) and I don't have any interest in this one either but just judging from the trailer I can't tell that this one is "worse" than any other "coming attraction". Do we insist on another Citizen Kane because of th...

Re: Weekend Box Office 7/16 - APES Also Hit "Franchise Fatigue"
Looks like I wasn't the only one who stayed away from the APES as this opening is way down from the prior sequel (which opened with $72 million several years ago) and also under a $60 mil+ projection that everyone had this pegged at. I still contend they shouldn't have made another sequel that look...

Re: Ron Howard Named New Director of HAN SOLO
During the classic Hollywood era, especially in the 1930s and 40s, producers were often the ones in charge with directors moving from one project to another after principal photography. Although lots of theater "filler" was produced this way, there were also a lot of entertaining films mad...

Re: Twilight Time MGM March Madness Sale ($10-$25)
Madness indeed, thanks for the post.
Except for a couple of double-features or sales like this, Twilight Times are always too pricey for me.
