Re: Twilight Time - 3-Day Sale (ZULU $10, etc.)
And my order arrived today and while its enjoyable to watch the films I have now decided that henceforth I am *never* reading Julie Kirgo's liner notes again or listening to any commentary she is featured on. If she can't learn to write liner notes without going off into pretentious partisan social...

Re: rate the last movie you saw
RE: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR I do agree the ending was kind of a whimper, more like just the latest episode instead of a stand alone movie. I believe the others of these Marvel superhero installments share this in common, though they all seem so interchangeable and forgettable to me that I don't c...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon '15
Doctor X (8/10) Some comedy relief to dilute the somewhat grotesque horror elements. Some scenes more effective than others. Tales of Terror (7/10) Satisfying trio of horror tales spiced with a little humor and Vincent Price is always worth watching. Black Sabbath (7/10) I first saw this movie about...

THE HOBBIT - BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES - as I said with the previous film, if you liked the other two installments (which I generally did), although this film doesn't add anything new visually or otherwise and I imagine you will like it. If you didn't like the previous films, there's nothing much h...

EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS - 2/10. Visually impressive, theologically empty. Very disappointed as it seems the filmmakers chose to basically use the Old Testament as an outline and jettison the rest. There is a lot I had problems with; I realize Scott is an atheist (at least I believe he is last time I...

Well, I missed all of these the first time around (with the exception of Poltergeist), so I don't expect I'll have any problem missing them again...Eric W. wrote:http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-new ... 13917.html
This is a painful list to read in more ways than one.

Rear Window 7.5 of 10 -The two plot holes that have never satisfied me though are (1) why does Jeff never mention the scream he heard in the dead of night which we know was the murder being committed? Wendell Corey would have likely had a pat answer for it, but it should have been mentioned and (2)...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2013
My Hallowe'en viewing last year was pretty modest, just the two Kolchak pilot movies. This year on the schedule is Dracula (1931) , Dracula's Daughter , Son of Dracula , The Mummy (1932) , and The Mad Magician . It's been several years since I've seen these (and the last one is a new acquisition).

Re: LONE RANGER Thread - 150 Minutes
Just got back from seeing this, not my idea, my wife likes going to movies. Nothing great here, and I don't need to see it again, but I sure don't think it was any worse (and maybe even a tad better) than the others I've seen this season: Iron Man 3, Star Trek..., and Man of Steel, all of which were...

Re: Twilight Time: July/August Releases Slated
Twilight Time's business model seems to work well for them and more power to them but it does pretty much eliminate "blind buys" at those price levels (and I have many, many movies on DVD that I bought sight unseen, mostly if I like the actors). These prices really do force one to place a ...

Re: Halloween Horror Marathon 2012
Last year I watched a Frankenstein marathon Hallowe'en weekend, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, House of Frankenstein, and House of Dracula. That's about my speed when it comes to "horror" movies. Not very amb...

Re: JOHN CARTER "Could Be Biggest Write-Off of All-Time"
Only time can answer the title of this thread, that's strictly an accounting issue, but I am curious about why the animosity and negative buzz about this film well in advance of people seeing it. Is that really based entirely on a 90 second trailer? My mind goes back to 1981 and seeing a trailer for...

Re: John Carter - Trailer.
The trailer is only okay, but director Andrew Stanton ( Finding Nemo , Wall*E ) is a SOO-PAH genius, so I'm cautiously optimistic (plus, potentially a sci-fi Thomas Newman score to look forward to). I believe Giacchino is already slated for this. As a long-time fan of Burroughs Mars novels I'm mere...

STAR TREK Official Thread -- Reactions *Spoilers*
Even though comparisons with the "original" are inevitable, I'm trying to avoid them and just judge this as a stand-alone movie. It is a known fact that one man's "confident" is another man's "smart-ass". I know Shatner exhibits a lot of confidence in his portrayals, I ...
