"Sorry, but I disagree: I think that the filmnakers are doing them a disservice and exploiting their memory and the powerful emotions it evokes. Nor did all of the families endorse the film, and frankly I find it somewhat distasteful that those who did not co-operate with the film have been cri...

I could not disagree more vehemently than with the negative remarks expressed in this thread about "United 93". As I mentioned elsewhere, my family has not one but two personal connections to this specific part of 9/11, and for me this was a compelling depiction of the blunt reality of wha...

The Orson Welles interview on this set marked the only time, Merv recalls, that Orson allowed Merv to ask him questions about his past, and in particular about his past marriage with Rita Hayworth. Two hours after finishing the interview, Welles died. When you watch this, you're literally looking at...

United 93-See It!

I just came back from seeing "United 93" with my father. He knew two of the passengers on the flight, Donald and Jean Peterson, and Todd Beamer was in the same college class with me. It was something we both had to do. I had earlier seen the cable movie "Flight 93" which I felt w...

I remember reading somewhere that there's a rights/clearance issue surrounding numerous episodes which was why a traditional Season 1 release couldn't be done, and why they went with the "Best Of" approach. Sometimes I have to admit there's something to be said for a big "best of"...

I can pretty much handle commentary of the "oh, that was neat" or "He's going to die!" variety at various moments if it's a cast member who's largely being surprised again at what they're seeing, but when it's a "film historian" I think I'm usually anticipating more of ...

For sheer tedium no one will ever top Marian Keane on the Criterion DVD of "Spellbound." That's the only time I stopped listening to a commentary I'd ever started!

This Feeney commentary fell more into the dud category that the "Ben Hur" commentary track was.

The F.X. Feeney commentary on Towering Inferno is proving to be a tedious drag to sit through, at least through the first 100 minutes. A lot of meandering boring stuff about symbolism of scenes and colors and darned little about the actors or the production, and even worse NOTHING devoted to the mat...

The AMC Backstory is a nice reminder of what that channel used to be like before its sad, pitiful fall. The most illuminating revelation in the cast commentary was Carol Lynley's description of what was Irwin Allen's original idea for "Beyond The Poseidon Adventure", which was having the s...

I picked up my copies today at Best Buy, and for good measure I got Universal's new DVD of "Earthquake" which despite its lack of extras will at least be an improvement over the old Goodtimes DVD. Amazingly, I didn't realize until later that the clerk neglected to charge me for "Posei...

The page mentioning all this has been deleted. Which really has to make you wonder if the gun was prematurely jumped on all this.

If this is true, then all I can say is "About time!" I can dispose of the DVDs I had transferred from the CAV LD set (though I still keep the LDs themself since the bonus materials weren't transferred). Maybe to celebrate, I should play the track of the original "Lub, Lub" Ewok s...

I had the release date wrong and walked into Best Buy yesterday expecting the movies to be out now, but it's actually one more week of waiting. And I've already gotten prepared by tossing out the old DVD versions! I haven't seen the TV only scenes of Towering Inferno in 20 plus years since the last ...

Thanks. My desire to get this just plummeted to nil. I refuse to get any DVD of a movie that leave out things like that.

Guys And Dolls-Exit Music This Time?

Important question for me about this new DVD release, Andy. Is the Exit Music there this time? It was MIA last time out, which is why I've stuck with my early 90s AMC recording which left it in all these years.
