Well, I've had problems with some of these Universal sets. On "Adam-12" the final side wouldn't load on my main player, which is a relatively new Sony DVD/VHS combo player, and "Emergency" would freeze up repeatedly on it, but both played fine on an older combo machine. It just s...

Some more bad news to report on this set courtesy of the early reviews at Amazon.com. Not only are many customers again having the problem with defective pressings (I've been lucky so far but I have to admit I'm worried particularly after my nasty experience with the Adam-12 and Emergency sets. Univ...

Alfred Hitchcock Presents DVD Set

It's becoming increasingly evident that Universal has been sacrificing quality for quantity since they started opening up their vault of classic TV shows on DVD. While it's been nice to see so many titles, what hasn't been nice is how all of them have been barebones releases with minimal to no extra...

The one Brando scene I would so much love to see back in the movie is when Clark come back to the ruined Fortress to try and get his powers back and Jor-El appears to him and finally does so with a long lecture beforehand about how he'd anticipated this moment. I've read the script for the scene and...

According to the Toho forums I lurk at but don't belong to, "Frankenstein Conquers The World" and "War Of The Gargantuas" are now owned by Classic Media, the division of Sony that now has most of the Godzilla movies which they have not been doing right in their most recent DVD re...

Bumping this thread up to note that another classic Toho title "Atragon" gets a Tokyo Shock release in December. This, along with the still unreleased "Gorath" is regarded among the best Toho sci-fi efforts as opposed to kaiju monster flicks (though "Atragon" introduces...

I was never even aware that the first DVD release had gone OOP so why they would bother to do it the same way again with an inferior cover is beyond me.

76 King Kong DVD Reissue

I've noticed that Paramount now plans to cash in on the Jackson Kong craze by reissuing the 76 film on DVD (which was first released in 1999, it's first ever widescreen issue as it never had one on Laserdisc) with totally new cover art (I think they're squeamish about using the original poster with ...

If this means that the Marlon Brando footage shot for Superman II is finally going to see the light of day, then I for one will be ecstatic.

Marian Keane, I think it was, on the Criterion commentary for "Spellbound" was the biggest commentary snoozer for me since all she did was look for sexual symbols in every shot it seemed like. OTOH, there are some instances where a production person like a director should not be allowed to...

Ben Hur demonstrates what supplements should *not* be about. #1-Commentary tracks should first and foremost be about the production and history of the movie, and should *not* be the occasion for highly questionable social commentary, especially when there's a lot of dead air time on the former point...

Another gigantic waste in the 2005 documentary was allowing George Lucas to talk about the "inspiration" of Ben-Hur on him for Episode #1's pod-race complete with clips. I think it's a disgrace to even remotely compare the two, and from my standpoint that scene only demonstrated how Lucas ...

I think I need a bit of clarification. The four DVD set contains the other movies as well as all of the Kong material that would be just on the two DVD set?

"Armageddon" just literally seems to go out of one's way to insult the intelligence of the audience. I don't know what was worse, the "animal cracker" sequence, or the ridiculous moment where Liv and Ben have to share this very inappropriate public clench in front of everyone els...

Unfortunately no, in the case of this film at least. By contrast, the supplements for Heston's other great Biblical epic "The Ten Commandments" blow this one's away (in terms of those that pertain to the film itself. I'm not taking into account the presence of the silent "Ben Hur"...
