Help with The Thing

#1 Post by andy b »

Hi all

Our local HMV is doing a trade & save on Blu Ray & 1 of the titles is The Thing, John Carpenter's film.

I have the original DVD which has a great selection of extras are these on the BLu Ray? the packaging does not give many clues except the audio by Russell & Carpenter.

Any help very appreciated

regards

Andy are you Down Under?

The US Blu-Ray is missing a lot of extras -- the full doc and some other things, which are chopped up and re-edited as picture-in-picture extras on a 25gb BD disc.

The European Blu-Ray, which I believe is the same one available in Australia, offers all the extras from the DVD in their proper, original form on a 50gb dual layer disc.

Transfer (which has a bit more noise reduction than the HD-DVD) and sound are the same on the two releases.

Sorry Andy!

Yeah the North American Blu-Ray is inferior to the HD-DVD and the European Blu Ray too.

If you ever import some discs from overseas, THE THING BD is worth it -- much better presentation.

Hi Andy

Thanks to your advice & Eric's I do get regular DVD from Europe, but not Blu Ray, as I have a North American player. Is the European Thing region free?

Still considering an all region player but not sure yet for Blu Ray.

Thanks for your advice

THE THING BD from overseas is not region coded so it will play on any North American BD player :)
