SUPERBIT bargains at Best Buy!

#1 Post by Jedbu »

If any of you have ever wanted any of the Sony Superbit titles but didn't feel like paying $20-25 for a single disc with hardly any extras compared to the mass release version, there is some good news. :D

Best Buy is selling these discs for $9.95 each! Yes, you can now get LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, SPIDERMAN I & II, MEN IN BLACK, THE PATRIOT and other titles released in this format for a nice, low price. With the exception of JOHNNY MMEMNONIC (whatever!) and the first CHARLIE'S ANGELS movie, I've never seen any of these even used for under $15. I don't know if this means that BB is going to discontinue them or if Sony will be, but if you've ever been tempted to get them, now might be a good time.

The LAWRENCE disc is just beautiful, and all of these are DTS, to boot. So, if you know someone with a top-notch monitor and they don't have these, you might want to get your keisters perpendicular and get these before they are either gone or priced higher.

Great find!

Between this and the $10 Warner 2-discs at DDD, this is another wallet-crunching week....and yes not even I have all of these titles!! (Hey it used to be a lot harder to get review materials a few years back, what can I say? And not that I'm complaining, either! :)

Definitely a great deal. Best Buy has had these marked down since the beginning of the year (at least), so I have a hunch Sony is clearing them out for good.

I ordered the Superbit version of TOMMY online (same price) and was blown away by the picture quality, especially for a film from 1975. The level of detail was amazing.

There's still a few titles I'd like to pick up eventually, so please don't go around telling everyone, okay?. :D

Incidentally, I just picked up a bunch of the STAR TREK 2-DISC SPECIAL EDITION DVD's at Coconuts for $9.99 each. There was also a $5 rebate on each (final cost $4.99).

Does anybody know of any other retailer selling these for a good price? I couldn't find the SEARCH FOR SPOCK SPECIAL EDITION and need this to complete the opus.

Regards

Ed, Deepdiscount has a buy2-get-1-free Paramount sale going on.

All the TREK Special Editions are there I believe, so you can get them for $6 shipped each. :) Some good titles in there, not just Trek!

Good information, thanks. If I need to get another PARAMOUNT title along with it, I guess EVENT HORIZON or MISSION IMPOSSIBLE DELUXE might suffice. These are not high on my list, but your recent reviews have rekindled an interest in collecting these.

Just for the record, I am running out of physical space for these DVD's. I will need to rent a Storage Facility soon :)

:) You have no idea what it's like in the Aisle Seat offices. And I'm getting married!! lol. It's not getting any easier.

I would strongly recommend THE REIVERS if you don't have it already -- or any of those CBS films which are part of the sale (PRIME CUT, SCROOGE, the Peanuts theatricals). The extras on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE are pretty much a waste of time unless you need the movie in 16:9 (and it does have a free ticket for MI3 as well).

Not to mention one of my all-time bad movie faves -- PROPHECY! A movie which scared the bejesus out of me as an 8 year old, and made me laugh uncontrollably on DVD a couple of years ago!!

There are a lot of good titles in that Paramount listing.
