Great news for the 15 discs coming lol. Seriously it's good to see but this is never going to be anything more than the most niche format ever...with likely the same releases shared between regions and mostly all funded by major labels.
For those with 100 inch screens though it might be worth it...

BTW there may not be region coding but every disc will need an internet connection to work...making the formats discs like a glorified digital copy.
Sounds far worse than region coding IMO. Remember the DIVX format that died during the onset of DVD? Here it is again

Didn't they learn from the public's unanimous rejection of that format?AndyDursin wrote: Sounds far worse than region coding IMO. Remember the DIVX format that died during the onset of DVD? Here it is again

They don't...but they keep wanting to put these functions in as a means of controlling what you watch and when. It's not enough to sell you the disc -- they want to play another role, curtail piracy and this, in their minds, is how it can happen (of course, people ALWAYS find a way around it).
DIVX was ahead of its time, obviously.

This is the main reason to own a movie on a physical disc as opposed to streaming it...once you buy it, it's yours forever to do with as you please. I can stream The X-Files on Netflix, but who knows how long they'll keep it? I now own the series on Blu-Ray, and can watch any episode I want whenever I want, and no one can yank it away from me or force me to pay for it again.
