I suppose we should have seen it coming years ago, when this was made...

I wish that studios would stop trying to ram square pegs into round holes when it comes to well-established franchises. The reason why Bond has endured for decades is precisely BECAUSE he's a "sexist, misogynist dinosaur", and trying to appease the "woke"/#MeToo fads is just going to destroy a character who fans will not accept in any other iteration. If people want something else...WATCH something else. It's like going into Kentucky Fried Chicken and getting pissed off that you can't get a hamburger and insisting that they change the entire menu to suit your personal tastes. Just go to frigging McDonald's if you want a hamburger, and let those of us who enjoy KFC alone! :x

The thing is, I don’t think anyone (statistically speaking) is asking for anything different. The problem today is so many want KFC to serve hamburgers—because by doing so it will correct past sins. Whether the customer wants it or not.

Or more accurately, kale and vegan burgers!

No feature credits -- just TV episodes? Wonder why she's getting a shot! Lol

I mean Star Trek is looking to slash its budget so I can undedstand their interest in her there but this is strictly PR driven from Bond's standpoint. She has no track record at all, none.

It's PC bullcrap, the same as hiring a female composer with virtually NO credits for the Captain Marvel movie.

To quote Lando, "This deal is gettin' worse all the time...!"

If they want a woman composer, why didn't they get Rachel Portman? She has impeccable credits (and loads of talent). But I doubt they even care who scores it -- they just want to adopt the pose of "supporting diversity".

Surprise hire as Cary Fukunaga becomes the first American to direct a Bond film in the Eon series. Fukunaga is best known for HBO's True Detective and leaving the movie version of IT over disagreements with the studio concerning elements of his script.

Would seem to be a weird fit for an "auteur" like Fukunaga but maybe he has no issue with blowing Bond up? Guess we will find out if this marriage, like Boyle's, will end in divorce...

Oscar winner Rami Malek is close to signing on for the villain -- fortuitous casting there if that pans out.

Lupita Nyong’o was targeted for the female lead but doesn't appear that's going to happen (though nothing's official) --

Despite having gone through at least 4 writers already, the woman behind the "hilarious" SOLO robot is now rewriting the script, reportedly to add "humor" (and/or #metoo elements, depending on what you read) at Craig's insistence:
James Bond could be getting a touch of Fleabag.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge — creator of the hit comedy series, whose second season recently concluded in the U.K. (it launches in the U.S. next month) — has reportedly been brought in to liven up the script of the upcoming 007 installment, being directed by Cary Fukunaga.

According to The Observer, the comedian, writer and actress was specifically requested by Bond himself, Daniel Craig, who met with Waller-Bridge in New York where she has been performing a stage version of Fleabag.

Craig, whose wife Rachel Weisz is said to be a big Fleabag fan, met with the Killing Eve creator to reportedly discuss how to improve the script, which he thought was in need of some "polishing," by adding some of Waller-Bridge's unique style and humor.

The script for Bond 25, which is how the film is still known (the latest rumor is that it will be titled Eclipse), has not been without its problems. After Fukanaga replaced Danny Boyle last year, regular 007 scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade were hired to rework Trainspotting writer John Hodge's screenplay, with The Bourne Ultimatum's Scott Z. Burns added to the writing team in February.

The various changes have meant that the release of the film — which has already begun some preproduction work in Italy, Norway and Jamaica, and at its regular base at Pinewood in the U.K. — has been pushed back several times and is now due in April 2020.

They should have replaced Craig after Spectre underperformed. He sounds like a giant pain in the ass.

Maybe Craig is trying to kill the series without killing the character? Lol...

Craig's Bond most closely resembles Dalton's: an affable guy who is hard-edged and lethal when need be -- but not a "funny guy".

Craig can be charming and amusing in interviews -- but he's not a comedian. He isn't glib like Moore, nor can he mimic Connery's deadpan delivery. Trying to invest this new film with "comedy" is going to fall flat.
