Re: Blu-ray.com *UPDATE*

It's basically nothing more than a glorified message board, running on very simple looking software from the looks of it. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to repair, but a week long outtage isn't good.

On the other hand -- I'll take the simplicity. Over the last few days I've checked out the Home Theater Forum again -- wow. Like, what the hell happened there. That site was once "the place" to go to, and I stopped going there once it was re-designed with endless advertisements. Aesthetically it is still a disaster. Pop ups as you scroll through posts, menu bars on the top and the right hand side, other ads that blanket the image -- probably the most cluttered message board I've ever seen, ever. (Plus the HTF community is a little on the snooty side, not unlike some residents of the FSM board)

Backups around the world? Change the OS? This all sounds shady to me.

Even if I were to run something like this out of my basement - which is not a good idea due to the infrastructure planning alone (ISP, Domain Name and DNS Registration, Power requirements, Backup Power) - I'd use virtualization which provides the ability to make a backup images, snapshot and restore points, migration tools to enable platform (OS) migration.

It's clearly amateur hour here. :D
Indeed,

Still down. After, what, four days? Five?

Absurd.

That would be my guess too! Lol. Did you read their explanation on the first post? Have you even heard of the software OS they said they are using Ed?

Yes, CentOS is just another flavor of Linux, but apparently the version they must be running is pretty old and not supported by whatever message board software they are using. They probably ran into a problem and now have to upgrade or start from scratch. Either way, it's terrible management of their primary IP. This isn't the Ron Popeill Rotisserie cooker - you can't just set it and for get it.

Now I'm getting a "privacy alert" pop-up when I try to use my old bookmark.
