POC want "representation", yet want seperate categories for themselves exclusively? Why not just have a "Black Oscars" then? It's like they WANT to go back to the days of racial segregation.

If the Academy didn't see fit to legitimately honor Bosemen for his better performances prior to Black Panther and his passing, then it's on them, not Hopkins or the moviegoing public.
Indeed,

You'd think Boseman had played Gandhi. This worship of Black Panther, a mediocre Marvel movie, as some sort of cinematic masterwork is insanity.

It kills me that Ryan Coogler -- who was referred to in reverant tones like he was the Black Scorsese after making Fruitvale Station -- has, since that indie critical darling, only made the seventh movie in the Rocky franchise and the 20th (or whatever) MCU movie. I don't recall Scorsese going from Taxi Driver to making movies like Rocky II and Return Of The Jedi in the late 70s and early 80s...

LOL no kidding. Sadly it's also a sign of where the industry is at in 2021 compared to 1980 or whenever. If you want to make a movie and make a lot of money, you're not looking for the next "Goodfellas" or "Raging Bull" -- you're cashing in on Franchise Cinema because that may be all that's left pretty soon.

More Oscar ratings disaster:
That is an all-time low for Hollywood’s biggest night — by a huge margin.

-A dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic.

-A drop of about 58% in terms of audience from what the previous low of the 2020 Oscars snared on February 9 last year. In terms of the key demo, the 2021 Oscars is down a crushing 64.2% in the earlier ratings from the 2020 Oscars.

That was the premise? The Lady in the Van had the same premise -- and it was a true story (and of course ignored by the Oscars).

In any case, gone are the fun and unpredictable days of Oscar...

Just saw this. Bravo to Tyler Perry. Especially in front of that crowd.
