Hopkins' performance was simply better, all apologies to Boseman. I'm glad it wasn't the usual "You're dead, so here's an award" thing, but of course, people will bag on this as being "racist".

If the Academy didn't see fit to legitimately honor Bosemen for his better performances prior to Black Panther and his passing, then it's on them, not Hopkins or the moviegoing public.

It kills me that Ryan Coogler -- who was referred to in reverant tones like he was the Black Scorsese after making Fruitvale Station -- has, since that indie critical darling, only made the seventh movie in the Rocky franchise and the 20th (or whatever) MCU movie. I don't recall Scorsese going from Taxi Driver to making movies like Rocky II and Return Of The Jedi in the late 70s and early 80s...

LOL no kidding. Sadly it's also a sign of where the industry is at in 2021 compared to 1980 or whenever. If you want to make a movie and make a lot of money, you're not looking for the next "Goodfellas" or "Raging Bull" -- you're cashing in on Franchise Cinema because that may be all that's left pretty soon.

All I can say about NOMADLAND is, while I respected McDormands work, the movie is about 100 times less entertaining than LOVE AND MONSTERS. Yes , it's a struggle living in a van. I didn't need to see 2+ hours of it.

That was the premise? The Lady in the Van had the same premise -- and it was a true story (and of course ignored by the Oscars).

In any case, gone are the fun and unpredictable days of Oscar...
