Also coming from Via Vision in Australia, with an impressive array of extras. Wonder if any of these will be on the SF disc...

Most of the Imprint interviews/supplemental content seems to be exclusive to their label. Always a first time though, so who knows.

Might be worth it to get both, as I love the film, and the Aussie extras look very tempting. The SF release I've already pre-ordered to get the poster.

I'd imagine it would be exclusive to their label since production costs on all of these supplemental featurettes has been slashed due to COVID. These Zoom-conducted interview segments are really lame and many of them are short (under 10 minutes) across recent Shout and Kino Lorber discs, sadly. But, it also makes them easier to produce, obviously, if all you're doing is calling someone on the phone basically :?

It has been disappointing to get "interviews" that are nothing but audio tracks over movie footage and production stills for the last year.

Scream Factory specs are up...

Special features:
  • Audio commentary by director of photography Mark Irwin (new)
  • Audio commentary by film historian Michael Gingold (new)
  • Audio commentary by film historians Dr. Steve Haberman and Constantine Nasr (new)
  • Audio commentary by film music historian Daniel Schweiger with isolated score selections (new)
  • Interview with actress Brooke Adams (new)
  • Interviews with production manager John M. Eckert and associate producer Jeffrey Chernov (new)
  • Trailers from Hell – Mick Garris on The Dead Zone
  • Memories from The Dead Zone featurette
  • The Look of The Dead Zone featurette
  • Visions of The Dead Zone featurette
  • The Politics of The Dead Zone featurette
  • Theatrical trailer
  • TV spots
  • Behind the scenes still gallery
FOUR brand-new commentaries, including one w/isolated score excerpts. :D All this and a fresh 4K transfer! Glad I pre-ordered now. I am still tempted to pick up the Aussie release at some point, but probably not until I can snap it up cheap, or as a trade with someone at BR. com.

It's significant that they have a new transfer, that old master was scarcely worth revisiting, now we don't have to worry!

Interesting that Scream is promising a 4K transfer, while Via Vision only has a 2K. You would have figured that there'd be one new HD master that'd be shared between labels.

Oh well, both releases have some great exclusive extras, so I may end up getting both. I have plenty of De Palma movies in more than one release from Scream Factory, Criterion and/or Arrow.

Got the SF release today. SUPERB transfer. :) I never had the previous Blu, so I have nothing to compare this to other than the special-edition DVD from the early-00s, but it looks fantastic, bright and detailed while retaining the proper amount of natural grain. I watched the two new featurettes, and was pleased they were PROPER interviews, instead of fuzzy Zoom calls w/bad audio. The "isolated score track" is bizarre, though, as Daniel Schweiger's commentary means that none of the cues -- whenever they are presented -- synch up to their intended places in the film! So, basically it's just the soundtrack album with someone reading liner notes out loud between the cues. If you have the Milan album, there's no real reason to listen to this (the CD had 95% of the score anyways).

Anyways, great release, and it's a treat to finally have this classic in my Cronenberg collection (and I've already framed and hung the cool poster 8)).

Great catch, I hadn't checked it out yet. Not the first track to do that either...I think the Tangerine Dream LEGEND isolated score back on the DVD was just the soundtrack album cues playing when they appeared in the film (or something like that).

I'm not a HUGE fan of this movie but it's well-made and this transfer is leagues better than the previous HD master that was recycled internationally.
