I didn't think it was that bad. Nothing noteworthy, but a nostalgic throwback (kind of like Where The Boys Are '84). There are FAR worse 80s T&A shows you could sit through.
I mean I love '80s teen movies and have seen them all (I think!), and can scarcely think of one from a major studio that's as charmless -- BUT I do agree with you on Hoffs. She was smokin'. That is reason enough to plunk down $10.
I got my order today...I overspent and bought some titles off the list because I only found three on the list that appealed to me: Inspector Clouseau (I have never seen it and will probably hate it but for a low price I will give it a shot), The Stranger (has a few cool supplementals), and The Satan Bug (ever since listening to the FSM release of Goldsmith's score I have been curious about the film...the price was right!).
The others I bought were Take the Money and Run, Support Your Local Gunfighter, amd Support Your Local Sheriff. The latter two films are guilty favorites...both kind of dumb but funny to me. As a Woody Allen fan I just wanted Take the Money...on Blu-Ray.
Although not from Kino Lorber, I also put in an order at Amazon for Murder on the Orient Express (the 1974 version, the Masterpiece Theater version, and the most recent version); I recently read the book and will end up reviewing all of them in the Read A Book, Watch A Movie thread. So lots of movies to get to this month!
"Inspector Clouseau" which I got in my order is dull and tedious IMO. I only got it because I want to hear the commentary on it.
"Satan Bug" has a few minor flaws (one cut scene created a narrative gap in the midway point) but I've always enjoyed it as a nice thriller story helped by the presence of so many great familiar faces from the TV world of that era.
I actually found Satan Bug kind of boring. It's perfectly competent and OK but moves at a stodgy mid 60s clip. Might have been better a few years later.
Clouseau doesn't work but I find it fascinating to see Arkin try the role minus Sellers and Edwards. Weirdly the Waldmans who wrote the script would later work with Edwards on the Sellers sequels so clearly he didn't hold a grudge this movie was made!
^^ I think she's more attractive now than she was in the 80s!
I hated the Bangles' music, but she was a dish. In fact I hated all pop music in the 80s -- but I still watched MTV to get glimpses of her and Nina Blackwood!
I loved The Bangles...they tried to be a female Beatles and were pretty successful at it. Their harmonizing was off the charts. Manic Monday was written by Prince, and Walk Like An Egyptian was a pretty stupid tune. However, there were lots of other songs on their albums (the few that there were) which were really strong and mature. One of my personal favorites was off their EVERYTHING album called Something to Believe In sung by bassist Michael Steele. Their cover of Hazy Shade of Winter is really good too. Very talented group of musicians.
