Debra Winger Interview, Reveals She Quit "A League of Their Own" Because of Madonna

#1 Post by AndyDursin »

Had no idea Winger was so far into pre-production in A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN that they had to pay her full salary when she quit...because of Madonna's casting!

I'll say this for her, she speaks her mind. Much to the chagrin of Twitter users who seem to think this is one of the 10 greatest movies ever made.

Can't read the article because of a registration pop-up. Winger was a solid actress - loved her in whatever I saw her in. She would have made ALOTO better - I never liked Madonna and never will. Good businesswoman but not talented as an actress or a singer IMO.

Thanks!

I always liked her and always will...though to this day I have never seen An Officer and A Gentleman or Terms of Endearment.

AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMEN still works. I'd skip TERMS, that's an overrated movie that I'm still ticked won the Oscar over THE RIGHT STUFF (a year following GANDHI beating E.T.!!).

I'm one of those who literally remember her for her "introducing" credit. :)

Never saw Officer or Terms. I wasn't impressed by her "Shadowlands" performance because it was a totally unauthentic portrayal of the real Joy Davidman Lewis (I know she did come to Wheaton College where Lewis papers are kept to research the part, but the script totally did the whole relationship wrong). Claire Bloom was much better in the 1985 TV version.

And IMO she totally shot her credibility when she defended Roman Polanski after his arrest (that later resulted in his release and escape from accountability again).
