I've crewed on film sets where prop guns were used. I've also worked as an extra where I had to carry a military rifle. Those were real firearms.

One of the first rules of firearms training is you never point a weapon at another person -- even when you "know" it isn't loaded.

Only a fool would point -- and fire -- a prop weapon at another person!

Personally, I don't know why the use of real firearms loaded with blanks wasn't long-ago phased-out. Prop guns can easily be equipped with mechanisms to simulate recoil, while muzzle flashes are easily added using CGI.

Reading up on this, that there were already safety concerns and crew either threatened to walk off the set or some already did...that this was basically a non union project...clearly there will be there lawsuits. How Baldwin's role as a producer on this film will factor in is another issue.

Beyond that I agree Paul, you'd think these sorts of things could be or would be CGI'd by this point.
