After a long list of false starts, Paramount goes the safe route, nixes the Tarantino and Noah Hawley iterations, and brings back JJ and the current crew.

I greatly enjoyed the interplay of the cast in these "Kelvin" Trek movies, so I'm pleased they're not getting tossed away for yet another reboot.

I also like the cast just fine. I just HATED Into Darkness as a film and didn't really think much of anything about the last one...it made no impression on me at all. So it's a 1 out of 3 situation for me with this crew, which isn't a very good batting average.
On the plus side, Orci and Kurtzmann are now off soiling the Trek brand on Paramount+, so they're staying away from this one. At least it's a new screenwriter...albeit the guy who wrote AVATAR 2.

I haven't bothered with any Star Trek spinoffs, sequels, requels (to use Andy's term) in a decade. And don't plan to.
Re: STAR TREK Next Sequel Announced, Abrams Producing and Cast Returning
Overall I think Star Trek is dead...at least mine is. The Kelvin movies are ok for what they are... decent one timers... but if that had been the end of it I would be fine. I don't care if they make another one.
I haven't bothered with anything else past that nor do I intend to.

It's actually kind of crazy they're not just making a new movie with a new cast.
By the time this next movie is released more time will have elapsed between sequels in THIS series than the time the OLD show went off the air and ST: TMP was released.
The last one of these came out 9 YEARS ago. Wow.

Oh wait, I got the titles confused. INTO DARKNESS was 2013.
I forgot about the other one -- that's how good it was. Then again, at least it wasn't as bad as the 2nd one -- THAT one I do remember.
